"It was for all of us here; stuck in a funny pathetic excuse for a prank; fate decided to pull...."
=============================
Cool.
Just too cool.
"Way too cool." Rieka chimes in dreamily.
"Yeah, I know right." I whisper back without thinking, my eyes fixated on this man with perfectly sculpted face sitting godly before me skimming through the menu for God knows how long.
The calm never leaving his features. What is he even looking at for so long, we have already placed the orders. But never mind, as long as I got to look at those toned fingers of his sliding with ease through the pages time to time, his ocean like blue gaze moving across the words serenely.
If calmness had a form, his form was screaming calmness. The calmness that oozed confidence. The calmness that was of a calculating king at the time of crisis, the calmness that was spine-chilling that it would pale the enemies to death, the tranquility that would shatter every ounce of being of the nemesis into dust in matter of seconds. The calmness was deadly to make him a living being.
More than anything, it was the calmness that made me want more, the want to know more about the mystery behind those blue orbs, behind the confident sly smirk that those plump kissable red lips morphed into every now and then.
My mind wanders back to the events of the morning, the way our lips were only a breath away from a scrumptious kiss I have been longing for, ever since I laid my eyes on them.
Finally, some movement, but I cannot tear off my gaze as his formidable ones meet mine. His eyes bore into my own amber ones as if peering deep into the depths of my soul. As minutes pass by, I can feel my body lean closer as he does the same. It was as if there was no one else in the world.
No.
More like, we weren't even on earth.
He was so close; I could feel his breathe on my lips. It didn't matter where we were. Where were we by the way? Well, who cares? All I wanted to do was to kiss my mate.
"Ahh, it's so hot and stuffy in here. My single eyes cannot keep up with this romantically sick scenario. SOOO LOVEY-DOVEY. SOOO FUCKING LOVELY- DOVEY."
The waitress's booming and annoyingly fake bubbly and dreamy voice breaks me out of my trance, I mean breaks us from our trance.
"And you, you, you and you should get yourselves a room instead of flirting publicly. It's annoying, especially to poor singles like me." The brunette with chocolate brown eyes literally hisses pointing accusing fingers on all four of us sitting here, trying to sound as calm as possible with a very fake toothy smile on her face which, without a doubt she had no intentions of hiding.
Blood rushes to my cheeks with much pressure, I turn to look at Anna whom I had totally forgotten about. By the looks of it, she too hadn't remembered me either as she must have been lost in her own world with her mate of course.
Moreover, we were so entranced by our mates that none of us had registered the arrival of the food, which was by now going cold. No wonder the waitress was pissed off.
"So what? It's her fucking problem, her boyfriend cheated on her. Why is she scattering her goddamn emotions all over the place. I wish killing was legal." I turn to look at the Tristan cursing the waitress. It was funny to see a Grim Reaper wishing for killing to be legal. I almost laughed out loud when his head snaps to me.
"We are allowed to kill any person before date only when we have reason big enough to kill them, it's like killing a mosquito once it bites, but you cannot kill it for buzzing around." He fumed giving the waitress a dirty glance. He loathed her. I wonder what was going on between him and Anna, that made him this frustrated.
"And you read minds?" I ask suddenly when I realize that I hadn't said that out loud.
"Yes, that is the case with everyone born into the Reapers Clan. Some say it's a gift and some have referred to a punishment. As for me... I agree with the latter." Triston trails off dully as his mind seems to wander while he simply pushes around the mac & cheese on his plate.
I could have sworn I had witnessed the serious yet distressed glint flash through his dark eyes in a fraction of second. Regret fills me as I ponder over his words. I knew what he was referring to. I might have even been among those who have played a part in the 'punishment' he mentioned.
I somehow couldn't look at Blade, who was sitting right in front of me, my gaze was everywhere but him. You know right, I was totally flustered by then. How was I even supposed to face him. Suddenly, I feel his hand grip my chin, his hold was neither too soft nor too hard, just perfect. He slowly moves my face to face his. I am a little shocked at this sudden contact as a shiver made its way down my spine and behold the ever-famous butterflies fluttering in my tummy.
Damn his hands felt good on my chin, "How would they feel..." Rieka is cut off by my internal scream. "No, no, noooo, Rieka! You need to stop!"
My breath got stuck in throat at his next words.
"Look at me." He whispers in a gruff voice, a hint of possessiveness clear behind each word he spelled.
I was taken aback at his sudden show of emotion. He had a great control over his emotions, and he knew better to keep them at bay in a public place. It was driving me mad. His face showing an expression that was of longing and possessiveness made me crave for his touch.
This was hell.
The tension between the four of us was getting out of control. You know, the kind of tension between a newly met mates, and a couple who found out they were mates four days ago. 'Young love' that is what elders would refer this as.
It was starting to feel suffocating in here. I quickly let myself out of his grip and I bite back a whimper at the lack of his touch.
"We." a pause.
"Should." I give another awkward pause.
"Eat."
And before my mind got distracted, I dig into the juicy beef steak and stuff a huge piece into my mouth without even looking at anyone.
"You never change, do you? You need to eat slowly." Anna winks at me with a chuckle.
"Yeah, I couldn't care less." I grin widely at her between chewing the meat followed my violent cough as I feel the food get stuck in my throat for a few seconds. Blade passes a glass of water with a worried look while Anna pats my back muttering something along the lines, 'calm... he... down.... stu.... Sor...' I couldn't focus and my eyes got watery as I gulp down the whole glass of water in one go.
After calming down, it grows silent as no one spoke, and it was a comfortable silence.
And poof, my mind continues its journey as I replay the Anna's remark on my eating etiquette; that, I had none. Anna was a picky eater, and she had mastered art of eating like a noble woman, 'Alpha's daughter stuff'. And then there are other girls I know, Amelia who was a little childish, yet her eating was more girlish than mine. Then there is Leah who didn't need to act, she had that aura that made her look noble. And our ever-favorite Sarah, couldn't care less. She would rather not eat than eat with etiquette. In all honesty, I have never seen anyone enjoy food as much as she enjoys it, she even makes your most disliked stuff look like the tastiest and I love that about her- the way she enjoys the smallest moment of life while being the laziest of person you will ever come across.
At my action the tension in the air had reduced and it became breathable. The added sound of cutlery assured me that they had got my message.
"We need to get the hell out of this fucking stuffy restaurant and get back to business."
It was for all of us here; stuck in a funny pathetic excuse for a prank; that fate decided to pull.
