Lykaos
Monday morning, one dreadful long bus ride to school. That was until my friend, Winter got on the bus. She got on rather slow as if seeing if she'd change her mind and run out out at the last minute but didn't.
She sat down and groaned, "It's too early and cold for this!" I smiled at her, and patted her arm, "I know, but somehow I think you'll survive this." She narrowed her dark grey eyes at me and huffed before flicking her long black hair at my face.
"What the hell? Why'd you do that for?" I yell at her trying to be serious but couldn't hide the smile creeping on my face. She grins back at me sheepishly before replying, "I've missed you, buddy." I lean my head on her shoulder "I've missed you too."
After the bus ride, the bell for first period went as soon as we got to school and we go our separate ways to class. During first period in ancient history I can't help but look outside and into the forest next to my school. Tall trees stalking high up, all sprinkled in snow. A beautiful picture of all kinds of green and white. I could have looked at it forever but loud whispers started to distract me.
"Look at her hair, it's like she's never brushed it." Someone giggled at the back. I furrowed my eyebrows, and twisted around and saw a group of girls staring at me and laughing. Brunettes and blondes, hair straightened down, makeup caked on, all proper and ladylike. I couldn't help but stare at the 'leader' of the all. Naomi Greenwood. I have never spoken to her but for some odd reason she had something against Winter and myself, always giving us glares and starting something with us. Winter always tells me to ignore it but sometimes I can't help myself.
"Can I help you?" I question her with a raised eyebrow. She gives me a foul look like I've insulted her and turns around and says something to her friends which makes them all laugh before turning back to look at me but realizes I'm still staring.
She sneers, "Stop looking at me, freak!" Leaving no room for an argument she looks away and continues to do her work. I shrug my shoulders and start drawing in my book for the rest of the lesson.
When the bells goes for the first break, I saunter off to find Winter and tell her about what happened.
"What a bitch." Winter says once I'm done telling the story. I nod my head in agreement, "I don't understand what she's got against us." I grunt out annoyed, Winter shakes her head, "Me neither." We both drop it at that and start making our way to the library. With small talk as we carried on to the library, we didn't take notice of someone walking out as Winter bumped into them.
"What the hell?" We hear an all too familiar shriek. I rolled my eyes as we turned around to face Naomi, "Here we go." I mutter.
Naomi brown eyes were glazed with anger, she tried to take a threatening step towards us, but neither of us faltered back.
"Look, I'm sorry I bumped into you," Winter spoke out rolling her eyes, "I wasn't looking." She finished. Naomi's nose flared with the not so sincere apology, "You better watch what you say bitch," she said while smirking, "Or else." By then there was a crowd circled around us, as 'oo's' echoed around us by Naomi's threat.
"Or else what?" I stepped in, taking the heat of Winter. All eyes turned to me, like everyone forgot I was there. Naomi gazed slightly down at me. "You don't get to challenge me, you little mutt." She shrieked out, her eyes started to darken as she advanced towards me, I was startled back at the sudden shift in the atmosphere.
As she got closer a figure stepped in front of me, Winter glanced back a concerning look to me before setting her eyes on Naomi, "You'll have to fight me because no one hurts my little buddy." A new sense of power radiated off Winter.
Naomi eyes widened in surprise before covering it. "Okay then, your funeral." She turned around and started to make her way towards the football field. Everybody looked around confused but soon followed her.
I took it as a chance to talk to Winter, "What the hell was that?" She shrugged her shoulders, "I have no idea, something just came over me and I couldn't let her hurt you." I nodded my head in understanding before adding, "Well I don't want you to get hurt, what are we gonna do?" She looked towards where Naomi is, "I guess I'm going to stick by my words." She wasted no time in advancing towards Naomi. I groaned out loud before following behind Winter.
Once in the middle of the crowd, Naomi started to stalk Winter in circles, examining her. Winter decided to copy her, which angered Naomi more. It was seconds before the first hit was made, Naomi sidestepped making Winter think she was going left but changed her route quickly and went right. Her fist connected Winters cheek, a loud cracked was made as Winter fell down.
She lifted her hand to her cheek, caring for it for a moment before her body started to shake violently. She was quick on her feet as she ran straight for Naomi. She tackled her to the ground and continuously kept punching her. The fight ended just as quick as it started.
People tried to pry Winter of Naomi but it made no difference at all. "Winter! Please stop." I screamed out as soon as blood came into my vision. Everything fell silent as Winter stopped and pushed people off her. She turned around to face me, her black hair all messy, blood was dripping from her hands. I stared in shock before shaking it off quickly and grabbing her hand and taking her somewhere we won't get caught, a place she can calm down.
We raced past people who were to busy attending to Naomi's health to notice us.
We finally made our destination, the forest. As soon as we stopped Winter fell to her knees taking deep ragged breaths. "Are you okay?" I asked her, looking around and making sure no one followed us.
She nodded her head and stood up before smiling at me, "God, that was something." She explained, "I didn't even feel like myself, well I did, but I felt amazing, unstoppable." I smiled at her little rant, "Thanks for defending me, I'll pay you back." She shrugged it off, "No problem." She said as she looked around in the forest in content.
I started to walk deeper into the woods, and turned around to Winter, "Well come on, we still got two more hours till school finishes. Let's go adventure!"
She smiled before racing past me laughing, "let's get going then!" Her laughter echoed in the woods, soon followed by my own. Unaware of eyes staring at us at every corner.
