A Different Feel

Winter

I could sense them, I didn't know who or what they were but they were close. A threatening aura surfacing in certain areas as if they were tainted. A bad taint.

Everything was starting to look different, the trees, the earth, the sky but mostly people. I see them in a different light now. Whatever was happening to me, the change was vicious passing through lungs and mind.

They ached in a certain way that couldn't be explained in words. My mouth would speak but there were no words coming from it. A silent language whispering in my bones. I couldn't understand it, but maybe it wasn't supposed to be understood just felt within.

My world has reversed around, my ground had become the sky and my sky had became earth and I'm wading through starlit potholes and the moon as the never ending mountains spinning in the ocean of darkness.

It was different and it was also home.

Lykaos

When we booked into the hotel the receptionist person was strange. His old frail nose twitched and eyes narrowed down the moment we walked in.

"Hi, we'd like to book a room for two?" Winter asked without notice of the sudden change of atmosphere.

"Mhm, will you just be staying the night?" The old man questioned, eyebrows raised ever so slightly.

Winter grinned broadly, "Yes, just for the night." I found out she caught on by the way her back went all stiff. The thought of this person definitely putting a threatening vibe on Winter had brought something protective through me.

I walked up in front of Winter and turned to the man, "Look-" I looked down at his name tag, "Frank, If there no rooms available, hurry up and spit it out."

I was suddenly pushed aside and Winter was in front of me again, "Woah, Lykaos. It's okay. Sorry about that!" She smiled apologetically and turned back to me, "Go wait outside."

I huffed out and walked outside to cool down. Winter came out a minute late with a key and glared at me, "What was that back then?"

I crossed my arms up high and pouted, "Nothing, was just getting impatient."

She shook her head and laughed, "Got to control that around suspicious people. Anyways our number is forty-three, let's go to our room."

I groaned and dragged my feet along the ground, "okay." I drawled out.

When we got to our room, I suddenly heard a quiet screech with a gush of wind coming closer. I turned around just as a silver arrow came in my vision, I didn't have enough time to get fully out of the way just as it went in my arm.

I screamed out in pain, "Winter, open the door now!" Another silent screech was coming this way as it came into vision, I jumped in front of Winter to protect her but I was suddenly pulled back and thrown on the ground and as the arrow was about to hit me the door closed violently and hit it instead.

"Are you okay?" Winter gushed out as she pulled me more into the dim room.

"I'll be better if an arrow wasn't in my arm." I snarled, "Get it out now."

She was hesitant and lightly grasped the arrow, "Are you sure?"

I nodded and bite into my arm, she pulled it out fast and my head was becoming dizzy. She ripped some spare sheets and wrapped it tightly around me arm, "We need to get you to a hospital."

I shook my head, "No, I was in one not long ago. It smells. And besides what if we get attacked again? We can't risk it."

Winter looked like she was in war with herself as she thought about two different things, "We will have to stay here for now but if you get any worse we'll take the chance and rush you to a hospital, okay?"

I nodded my head, "Okay, deal."

A couple moments late and the phone rings, Winter jumps in front of me in fright and sighs when she finds out it's just the phone. She walks over and answers it and we hear a recognisable voice of a particular old man.

"You shouldn't have come here."
