Lykaos
I lay my head on my pillow and sigh. Recalling today's events, after we went back to school Winter and I got suspended for two weeks even though I didn't get physically evolved in the fight I still got in trouble. Not that I mind.
I check the time on my phone; 11:08m
I decide to get some sleep.1:23am
I woke up gasping for air, my lungs feel like they've collapsed. My bones are on fire. I can't breath, my mouth is open but no air is going in or out. I try to yell out for help but I have no voice.
Figures around my bed, surrounding me. Humming something I can't quite understand. They start to stretch out to tall and big trees.
The musky smell of earth flows in my nose, only calming me very little but it's enough for me to catch my breath for a second and scream for help but instead of my voice it was Winter's.
Her voice grew deep, filled with pain as she started to howl. She, we, tried to get up but fell to the ground, darkness was everywhere.
I was now standing in front of her, I could see her, a pained expression in her eyes, silver and blazing in the night. She saw me and reached out a shaky hand to me, "Help me!" She screamed but it came out inhumane. Her breath began to quicken, as her body started to twist around and break.
She screamed again out to me, "What is happening to me?" I forgot how to move, how to speak. I could only watch my friend as she was in unbearable pain.
She howled out in agony, forcing me to my knees as my head bent down in front of her. Everything started to fade away.
I startled out of my own bed which was covered in sweat. My breath was heavy, as I looked around. I quickly got up and went to the bathroom.
My flustered face came in the mirror, my yellow eyes abnormally brighter but it's what I wasn't worried about. I put my hands up to my blood smeared mouth only to notice that they also were covered in blood. I shakily took a step back and saw my legs and feet were covered in dirt and there was black fur all over my clothes.
I slammed the bathroom door shut, stripped and stepped into the shower. I aggressively washed my body till my body was clean and red. I got out and covered myself in a towel, as I go brush my teeth.
Once I was done with everything and dressed in clean clothes, I grab the old ones and throw the in the bin.
I check the time; 5:01am
It was still dark out and I was exhausted so I quickly change the bed sheets and go back to sleep, dazed about everything that happened that I don't know of.When I woke up again, it was nearly lunch time. I got out of bed and dressed myself. I took out my phone and call Winter, when it answered it was quiet.
"Hello?" I say hesitantly, "Winter are you okay? I had this weird dream about you last night and-"
"Come to my house right away, we need to talk." She replied hurriedly with a hoarse voice before she hung up on me.
I go down and tell my parents I'm going out, since it's their day off they allow me to drive one of their cars since we have two. It's only a ten minute drive to Winter's so I get there in no time.
As I parked in the drive way, Winter rushes out of her house with a couple of bags and a suitcase. She looked exactly how I did last night, only her skin was all bruised and red. She jumps in the passenger seat and tells me to drive to our secret place in the woods.
During the half an hour ride I try to talk to her, "What the hell happened?" I questioned for the hundredth time.
"I'll tell you when we get there." She replies. I nod my head frustrated but trust her to tell me eventually.
Once we finally get there, I look around. The small cabin in the middle of the forest was our secret place. We found this place near our school when we were year 7. We wondered off during first break and an hours later we found this place. We haven't been here often since we were busy with our finals but it seems like we've never left.
Winter got out of the car and looked around cautiously, once she seem satisfied with the surroundings she took our her bags and suitcase and went inside.
I followed her into the cabin, she took out the items in her bags. They were mostly food supplies, and water.
"What's happening Winter?" I asked
She glanced up at me and sighed, "We gotta hide away for a while. You'll have to call your parents and tell them we're going on a camping trip but don't say where."
Confusing as the whole situation was, I called them. There were a bunch of questions they asked with too little answers for them. They were angry but agreed anyways.
"Winter tell me what the fuck is happening?" I was slowly getting angry with her. My body started to tense as she looked at me.
It felt like something was telling me to look away but I couldn't, "What is happening?" I asked again.
She broke eye contact but looked like it pained and angered her, "What you saw in your dream, was real. Well, it wasn't a dream. You were there and so was I." She looked anxious while she tried to explain more, "We're going to change and until that happens and we have full control of it, we need to stay away from everyone."
"Why are we changing? What does that even mean? Do our parents know?" I started asking questions frantically. Not fully grasping the situation.
"If our parents are the same as us, they will understand. We'll go through this together, but first I need to show you something." She said and walked towards the door outside.
I followed her, "What is it?"
"Last night, we did something. Something bad." Her voice shook when she said this.
We walked through the woods, I slowly forgot why we were here and felt peaceful. Like I belonged here. Winter was ahead of me, and she seemed to feel exactly what I felt as well.
I was too consumed by my surrounding when I suddenly slammed into Winters back. An inhumane growl left my mouth unconsciously at my anger of being interrupted.
Winter turned around looking shocked but smiled slightly at me, "You can feel the pull as well?" She asked.
She didn't need to fully explain what she said because I knew exactly what she meant. The pull to the forest.
She turned back around and looked down, "This is what we did last night."
I looked to where she was looking at, and saw a body laying there. The body had been mauled and ripped to pieces.
I took a step back, "Why did we do this? I don't remember anything like this."
She kicked the body over, and what I saw changed everything. A middled aged woman face stared blankly at me, her face contorted between fear and pain.
"This is why we need to stay away from people until we have control over ourselves." Winter's words echoed through my head as we headed back to the cabin.
