"Uh, Evelyn?" Winston knocked softly on his daughter's door. He waited a moment before knocking again. There was no response, which made Winston's heart race. "Evelyn?" Winston was startled by sudden loud footsteps.

"What?" Evelyn said harshly through the door. "Evelyn, please, open the door." Evelyn opened the door but only a little bit. "What do you want?" Winston sighed. "Evey, please."

Evelyn huffed and swung the door wide open. Winston was taken aback to see that his daughter's long blond hair was neither long nor blond anymore. Her hair was now dark and short.

"Evelyn, what? When? Huh?" Winston stammered, bewildered, as just three days ago, his little girl had long blond hair. "I thought you liked your blond hair? what happened?"

Evelyn glared at her father, her eyes burning with anger. Winston couldn't help but notice the dark circles under her eyes, and it made his heart ache.

He despised himself for causing pain to the one person he had left in his life. He loved his little girl more than she could ever understand, but there was something Winston knew that Evelyn didn't, and it made everything a million times worse.

His worry for her was genuine, but he was hiding a secret that weighed heavily on his heart.

"What do you need?" Evelyn snapped, her irritation growing more and more as the two of them stood there just staring at each other. Winston worried about Evelyn, he knew she was hurting and he so desperately wanted to reach out and comfort her, but this secret he was keeping made him hesitate.

He understood that telling her the truth would change their lives forever, but he knew she wouldn't understand his side of the story. The weight of the secret pressed heavily on his shoulders, and the thought of shattering her world with the truth broke him.

He couldn't even look his daughter in the eyes, knowing what the future held. He couldn't bear to see the pain and confusion in her eyes when she learned what he had been hiding. Just the idea of it made his heart race and his palms sweat.

"Uh, Well, Evelyn, I need you to come to work with me today." Winston forced a smile on his face but his smile quickly faded when Evelyn laughed in his face. "No way. I'm not going." Evelyn shook her head and began closing her door but Winston stopped her.

"Evelyn, you have to. It's important." Winston's heart felt heavy. "Important? Please. I'm not going anywhere with you." It hurt Winston to hear Evelyn be so nasty to him but he knew he deserved it.

Since a young age, Evelyn put up with his drinking and all of his problems, he knew he hit her breaking point. There's only so much a child can take.

"Yes Evelyn, this is very important. Please, just trust me." Evelyn's eyes widened and her jaw dropped to the floor. "Trust you? You're a joke." Evelyn tried closing the door again but Winston couldn't take her harsh words anymore. "EVELYN."
