Yamikumo moved like a ghost through the desolation of Northern Plithos, his rifle raised and firing with mechanical precision. The ruined district was a grotesque maze of twisted metal, shattered concrete, and the oozing remnants of those who lost in a battle for their humanity. The air reeked of decay, a suffocating mix of rotting flesh and acrid chemical residue. The hordes of Mutated closed in from every side, their broken, malformed bodies lurching forward in an unending tide of grotesque hunger.
His rifle, Sundowner, whined in Automatic mode, spitting laser fire that lanced through rotting skulls and pulped brain matter in sickening bursts. The Mutated were mindless, their gaits uneven, their flesh sloughing off in slimy chunks with every shuddering movement. They were no match for him. Yamikumo weaved effortlessly between clawed hands and gnashing teeth, his movements a masterclass in calculated efficiency. Every step was deliberate, every shot a clean execution that left a heap of writhing, half-dead horrors in his wake.
But the deeper he ventured, the more grotesque the Mutated became. Their forms were more horrific now, beyond any resemblance of humanity. Gnarled spines jutted out at impossible angles, their limbs swollen with tumors that pulsed and oozed like infected sores. Some dragged their entrails behind them, tangled in jagged metal, while others had mouths splitting open across their torsos, rows of uneven teeth gnashing mindlessly. Their grotesque evolution made them faster, tougher. Some staggered forward even after their heads were blown clean off, their bodies jerking and spasming as if animated by sheer hatred.
Yamikumo didn't falter. He danced through the chaos, evading claw swipes and tendrils with an ease that was almost insulting to his enemies. His rifle cut through the carnage, leaving smoking craters in their warped forms. Yet their numbers pressed him harder, and the morbid symphony of tearing flesh and guttural screams grew louder, closing in like a tidal wave of despair.
Amidst the chaos, a massive, slumped figure caught his eye-an Orc-like Anomaly, or what remained of it. The corpse towered at least twenty-two feet, its bloated, obese frame a canvas of mutilation. Its skin hung in shredded sheets, revealing glistening muscle and sinew beneath. Great gashes exposed ruptured organs, spilling blackened blood in congealed puddles around its remains. Flies buzzed in thick clouds over its hollowed chest cavity, where ribs jutted out like jagged stakes. One arm was completely severed, and its remaining hand was twisted, the fingers locked in a grotesque rictus of agony. The corpse reeked of death, and the battlefield around it bore the scars of a brutal fight, such brutality only a Kōeidesu could bring.
Yamikumo slowed for only a moment, grimacing. "Shit, she's this far ahead of me?" he muttered, his frustration tinged with a flicker of awe. He had heard rumors of her skill, being able to reach mach speeds and cutting all in her path down, but it was only now did he realize just who he was racing. The odds were stacked against him like never before.
But then the corpse twitched.
A grotesque, wet sound filled the air as parasitic flesh began to spread across the Orc Anomaly's mangled body. Tendons snapped back into place with sickening cracks, and tumors erupted across its torso like grotesque boils, pulsating with rhythmic, alien heartbeats. Eyeballs sprouted across its flesh, rolling independently in every direction, their bloodshot surfaces bulging grotesquely. Maws erupted across its back and arms, their jagged, uneven teeth snapping hungrily at the air.
The Orc's severed arm was replaced by an abomination of tendrils, each one writhing like worms as they twisted together, forming a massive, club-like appendage. The "mace" that emerged was a nightmare of malformed tumors and jagged, blood-soaked spines, its spikes resembling oversized human bones warped and sharpened into razor-sharp points. Bits of hair clung to the fleshy mass, giving it a grotesque, patchy appearance that only added to its repulsiveness.
