As she entered the room, she found Avyaan on the bed, all messed up and crying. Himadri’s heart broke seeing her brother like that, it seemed as if he was crying since a long time and she couldn't be angry on him anymore.
"Avyy!!" She called out softly. Avyaan, who needed nothing but the comfort of that soft, affection laced voice, quickly turned towards his sister who was looking at him in worry. How her eyes also showed some vulnerability seeing Avyaan like this, the concern was evident in her eyes. For Himadri, Avyaan was like a small baby who can be adored but one should not hurt him and here she slapped her baby brother 2 times.
She was angry with herself, despising the loss of her control on anger. At that point, the severity of the stunt Avyaan pulled didn't matter, the way he was crying, his eyes looking lost holding emotions like hurt, guilt and pain mattered to her more. She wasn't at fault but her heart refused to accept.
Avyaan on the other hand felt worse, how could he insult his elder sister like so, when did he become so disrespectful. All that Himadri said the previous afternoon came back to him, his brother didn't teach him to disrespect someone who is more than a mother to him. Hell! He wasn't even allowed to disrespect any elder no matter whose fault and he disrespected his sister... he didn't care of she told this to Shiwalik, he knew he deserved it but right now he required Himadri’s comfort, he knew he didn't deserve her forgiveness so soon but he at least craved for some comfort from her.
"D-didu! Didu, I'm sorry... I'll never say something like this again! You- you've all rights on me! You've the authority on me like a mother has on her son! I- I don’t know why I said that- I was very frustrated! Pl-please stay with m-me! Please don't leave!!" He cried out, sobbing and hicupping, he feared his sister, his mother, will leave him again.
Himadri rushed to his side immediately taking the boy in her arms who cried more as he received the warmth he craved since the morning. Finally, he wasn't getting ignored by everyone, he knew he deserved it and he knew he couldn't get his Vaini to talk to him so easily, nor his brother when he knows but he can never endure silent treatments and so as usual, whatever the situation may be Himadri came to comfort him, hold him and let him cry regardless the insults that were thrown on her by him. An elder sister though soft from heart could never forgive her brother so easily after hearing such insults but a mother will because she can never see her child in pain. A mother doesn't care about her pain, all that matters to her is her baby's pain. That's what Avyaan was for Himadri, her child, someone who she can never see in pain. Her pain always got buried deep down, somewhere in the far corner, because for her, her child's pain was more than her.
Ayaan's cries had subsided however small sobs and sniffles were still evident as Himadri also shed tears with her brother, silently providing him all the warmth she could give.
There was a sharp sound of the doorbell ringing continuously as if someone was in hurry when Shivanya's voice was heard, "Yetiye!! Aree ho aleee, evdhi kay ghai?!" As Shivanya opened the door, she was greeted by Shiwalik who looked restless, his eyebrows furrowed in a frown, his eyes holding something like panic.
(Coming!! What's the hurry?!)"What's the matter Shiwa?" Shivanya asked softly taking him in. "Where's Dri? And Avy?" He asked, his voice distant and holding nothing but distress. "Anya where are they?!" He asked, his patience wavering. "In Avyaan's room." She said calmly, she knew why was he panicked. He was more of a father to the siblings than a brother and always knew when his kids were in pain, no matter how away he was from home.
As he entered the room, the scene unfolding in front of him brought an instant relief to the ache in his heart as he found his siblings cuddled up. Avyaan had fallen into a deep slumber in Himadri’s embrace, tired from the crying but having a subtle smile on his face as snuggled closer to the warmth. Himadri was awake, she was leaned against the bed post, her eyes closed, her mind lost somewhere as she contemplated the events that occurred in the past 2 days.
