They say that on the day
the succession to the throne
of Driftmark  was discussed
, the sea roared with an
unusual fury, as if
reflecting the gods'
discontent. The dragons,
restless and nervous,
stirred in their lairs,
feeling in their guts the
omen of what was to
come. It was amid that
tension, under a sky
heavy with clouds,
that Nathearys Targaryen
and Jacaerys Velaryon
locked eyes for the first time
in years.

xi. king viserys and neysarion

The day they had returned to King's Landing had finally arrived. From the moment she opened her eyes that morning, Nathearys felt the weight of an unease she could not explain. Everything seemed denser, from the air she breathed to the steps she took through the cold halls of the Red Keep. There was a sensation in her chest, a constant murmur in her mind urging her on, as if the very shadows of the fortress were whispering that the time had come.

Since her arrival, she had been eager to see Sunfyre, Aegon's dragon, so she thought it would be a good idea to start the day by asking Aegon if they could take a walk through the Dragon Pit and she could see the beautiful dragon, especially since she noticed that the king's firstborn son was making an effort to be on good terms with her.

She knew there was a tunnel from her chambers to Aegon's, so she preferred to take that route rather than face the guards again, questioning her without knowing how to explain herself. She moved lightly through the dark and dirty passageways. But before reaching her destination, the echoes of a conversation stopped her. Instinctively, she hid behind a column, barely breathing as Alicent Hightower's words filled the air.
