Edit: wrote this in one sitting late at night and my keyboard doesn't always register all the keysi press, so there are a lot of small things that bugged me that i fixed :)

Zenix POV:

The moon was high above our heads, its pale light beaming down through the branches of the trees. The wind whistled throughout the forest, howling deeply creating an eerie atmosphere. The sound of crickets drowned out any other animalistic noises that I might've been able to hear. The occasional hoot of an owl, croak of a toad or howl from a pack of wolves would break through the constant drone of crickets, but those moments were so brief I was barely able to appreciate their sound.

Once again our walk was quiet. What was there even to say to Laurence? I don't know what I can say to make the situation better. I know he's still not over Aphmau, that much was clear even before he told me. But, letting all of his pent up feelings and emotions seemed to have cooled him off a bit.

I glance over to my right, Laurence walking next to me. He changed after opening up, he doesn't seem to be constantly drowning in his thoughts or be too stressed and anxious. The moonlight was dim, but I could still make out his features. His hair was a little dishevelled, and his bright blue eyes were closed. Every once in awhile, he'd take in a deep breath and sigh contently. He obviously felt like a weight had been lifted, and he could finally appreciate his former home.

I look back in front of me. Staring wasn't good-- no I wasn't staring, I was observing. I shake my head lightly.

Another thing I had noticed since last night, is that Laurence and I have been walking next to each other now. Beforehand, it was always one leading the other. One would take charge, and the other would follow a couple paces behind. I didn't mind his presence next to me though, it made talking and discussing the route easier.

I sighed and cracked my neck.

We had been walking for hours, the next town over was still a couple more hours away. I looked up toward the sky, hoping for some kind of escape. A groan escaped my lips, rolling my eyes I returned my gaze forward.

"What's on your mind Zenix?" Laurence asked, probably just wanting to fill the silence. I hummed, contemplating what I could say. There were a multitude of things on my mind, but was this the appropriate time for them?

"Eh, nothin' particular."

Now is definitely not the time for them.

"What about you Laurence? You seem to be feeling lighter."

He hummed softly in reply.

"It was nice to get it off my chest... I think that was the first time someone let me rant fully."

I frown a little. "I was really the first to let you rant like that? What about Garroth? You guys were so close."

He scoffed, running his hand through his brown hair.

"With Garroth I always had to make sure I didn't set him off. If I even questioned Aph's integrity a little, he'd go off on me for 'shit-talking' our lord."

He threw his hands up in irritation.

"But whatever! I don't care anymore. I've been cast off to the side one too may times. I left that life behind me three years ago..."

"Sure sounds like it." I snickered.

Laurence lightly slapped my shoulder.

"Oi!"

I chuckled softly as we continued our march forward. Though the conversation had died down, the air was light and comfortable.

"You know everything there is to know of me, but I know next to noting about you Zenix." Laurence started.
