Becky's pov.
"Cats or dogs?"
I almost fell out of my chair. Did I hear that right? I opened my mouth, only to close it again. Was the infamous Seoul Ripper, in all seriousness asking me if I was a cat person or a dog person?
Freen raised an eyebrow, "Well?"
If I was beyond for words before, it didn't come close to my predicament now. Apprehensively, I spoke. "Dogs." I paused, still not convinced, "Why do you want to ask that?"
"Call it curiosity." Freen wet her lips, "Come on now Rebecca, you don't expect me to ask things like 'what is your preferred weapon to kill', now do you? That's awfully judgemental."
I frowned immediately, "I'm not judgemental. I just....I didn't expect that."
There it was again, that damned, beautiful smirk back on her lips. "Not a lot of expected things do happen in life, you see. It's what you never see coming, that grips you in its clutches."
And before I had the time to fully process the weight those words held, Freen Chankimha rose in her place, leaning forward on the desk.
I barely even felt her face inching closer towards me. I stilled. The button. The button, my mind yelled, but at that moment, my body was incapable of voluntary movement. We looked at each other, no words being spoken, only the sound of my shaky breath interspersing with the silence once in a while.
Freen's gaze was confident, like a predator; while Becky's was startled, like a gazelle caught in a trap. It was more or less the same.
Freen leaned in closer, her stare dropping down to my lips. My tongue darted out to wet the dry surface unknowingly.
"What are you doing to me, Rebecca?" She whispered.
My whole world was quickly doing a 180° turn, and it was too much. Only when the door opened with a loud creak, did I pull back, but Freen never once moved from where she stood.
As I heard footsteps sound behind me, I knew it was time. Disoriented, I gathered my things from the table, almost dropping everything and tripping over nothing on my way out. I mumbled a small goodbye, not looking at Freen still. I couldn't. But as I reached the threshold, I did it. I glanced backwards, only to find the nurse uncuffing Freen, as she looked away into a wall.
Then our eyes met.
It was precisely at that moment, that I knew; there was something in the air that wasn't there before.
But what was it?
