At long last, you and Four had reconciled. And... you felt as though you'd grown a little closer to fully understanding them in the process. Well, sorta. You had no idea what they'd meant when they'd asked you if you were any good at making sandcastles. However, you told them you could certainly try. You found you were completely exhausted after the emotional rollercoaster you'd just went through, so Four graciously decided to aid you in returning to your cozy little sleeping spot. ...By holding you up in the air with one hand and carrying you back. You tried to insist that they didn't have to do that for you, but it didn't seem like they were taking "no" for an answer; walking the entire way back with their signature smile plastered across their face.
It was all a little fuzzy after that... Four finished carrying you back to your little area and Flower freaked out upon seeing you in such a state, snatching you from Four's grasp. Which was met by Four angrily threatening her with an act of violence, that of which you can't quite remember. You fell asleep very shortly after that, Four leaving to wherever they desired to go and Flower reclaiming her spot in the branches above you. You felt... content. You were finally beginning to feel integrated into this place. You were starting to belong.
Hours later, you awoke. Looking up through the tree twigs above you; Flower was nowhere to be seen. Judging by the hue of the sky, it appeared to be late midday. Maybe 3 or 4-ish? Warm, orange sunlight gently illuminated your figure. You sprawled out slowly, lying back fully against the soft grass; eyes closed. It's been a while since you've been fully rested, what with the numerous times you've been disturbed from your sleep as of recent. Not to mention your dreams being plagued with those odd numbers... Right now, though, you felt good.
You began to reopen your eyes, expecting to see the bright, bluish-orange sky laid out before you. But, there was no sky or Sun at all. The only yellow thing in sight being...
"WAH! X!?"
X's face. You scooted back against the tree almost immediately after seeing their large, white eyes mere inches away from your terrified face. Are you cursed to never wake up normally around here? You sat there with your hand clutched tight against your chest, as though you were suffering from a heart attack. X was the last individual you'd expected to see! The two of you had only interacted once before and it was a very brief one at that...
"You know my name! How'd you learn that?"
The variable grinned, goofily, leaning back to allow you juuust enough personal space to breathe comfortably.
"F-Four's mentioned you before..."
"They have? But, how did you know *I* was X?"
You hummed, slowly looking over them with a growing grin; finishing with a little shrug.
"I dunno. You just seem like an 'X', I guess."
X stared at you in awe, as if it weren't very apparent they were an 'X' just by looking at them. Though, you had technically already known who they were... Nevertheless, they were quickly growing on you. Their oblivious and silly nature was endearing.
"Wow! You must have good insight about people, ...erm."
The yellow algebralien cut themself off, staring at you with confused and slightly guilty eyes.
"We met before, but I can't remember your name! Sorry..."
They shrunk a little, crossing their arms behind their back, sheepishly. You waved your hands in front of you, clambering up off the ground and onto your feet.
"Oh, no, no! It's okay!"
"I, well, never told you my name..."
"I didn't really have a chance with how quickly Flower dragged me away from you."
"I'm (O/N)."
