Steve's footsteps echo as he hurries down the hallway to Bruce's lab. His heart is pounding in his chest, a mix of confusion, dread, and a growing sense of urgency. Bruce had called him in—he needed to see something, something about the girl who had been brought in barely a few hours ago.
It all started when a group of ex-SHIELD agents had gone on a mission to take down an old HYDRA base deep in the mountains, one they had only recently discovered. What they found there sent a chill down their spines. Among the wreckage and remnants of HYDRA's twisted experiments, they found her: a young girl, unconscious but alive, showing signs of powers far beyond what they had expected. She was no older than 10.
When the team brought her back to the compound, it was clear she had been subjected to experiments—though of what kind, no one knew. But what they did know was that there was something deeply familiar about her. There was something in her eyes that struck Steve in a way he couldn't explain.
Steve had hardly been able to focus on the situation, his mind racing with questions, when Bruce had asked him to come see something in the lab.
Now, Steve enters the lab, and Bruce is already at his computer, his face scrunched in disbelief. There's a strange tension in the air, something Steve can't quite place.
"Steve, you need to see this," Bruce says, his voice almost in awe as he stares at the screen. He gestures for Steve to come over. His hands hover over the keyboard, clearly unsure if what he's seeing is real.
Steve walks over, trying to keep his composure, but his concern grows as he looks at Bruce's computer. He sees a list of information, and as his eyes scan the screen, they settle on a particular line of text.
Steve's breath catches in his throat as he reads it aloud, his voice thick with disbelief. "DNA match 100%: Steven Grant Rogers and (Y/n) (Y/m/n) Rogers."
For a long moment, Steve stands frozen. His mind is reeling, and his breath catches in his throat. The words on the screen seem to blur together. "How is this possible?" he mutters, his heart racing. The only thing that makes sense in his mind is that this is some kind of mistake—there's no way this girl could be his.
He had barely registered her presence before, only aware of the girl in the holding room at the compound, the one they had found with strange powers. But now—now it was undeniable. There was no mistake. The DNA test didn't lie.
He turns to Bruce, his voice trembling. "I—I thought it was just a coincidence. The last name. It didn't mean anything. It couldn't have."
Bruce meets Steve's gaze, his eyes serious but laced with concern. "I think HYDRA got a hold of your blood somehow, Steve... and they made her."
The weight of Bruce's words crashes down on Steve, each syllable sinking deep into his chest. Made her? His mind flashes back to his time fighting HYDRA. But this? This was something new.
His hand trembles as he reaches for the edge of the desk. He doesn't know how to process this. He doesn't know what to feel.
For a second, Steve feels a surge of panic rise within him, his thoughts spiraling. What does this mean for her? What does this mean for him? But before he can voice them, an idea comes to him. Something clicks, a memory suddenly surfacing from deep within his mind.
His heart beats faster as he remembers Bucky. His mind latches onto that name, that connection.
"I need to find Bucky," Steve says quickly, the urgency in his voice clear. He doesn't wait for Bruce to reply, his focus sharp as he turns and heads for the door, his thoughts all on Bucky and the girl. (Y/n). His daughter.
