I woke early in the morning.  Early enough that the sun hadn't risen and the sky was still a deep navy blue.  I woke up screaming though, as something burned my palms.

"Ara?!" Alec and Will both shot up at the same exact time.

"What's wrong with her?!"  Alec yelled over my blood curdling screams.

"Should we call 911!"  Will yelled frantically.  He grabbed the phone and began punching in numbers.  He held the phone up to his ear.

"Wait, what's wrong with her hands?!"  Alec grasped my hand in his and studied the light that pulsated out in a strange white beam.  He instantly dropped it and yelped out in pain.

"They burn like hell!"

"Don't call," I managed to gasp out.  I knew what was happening, almost like I had known my whole life this would happen.

Will put down the phone right as the woman on the other line picked up.

"What are you doing?!  Call back!"  Alec piped up.

"She said not to call!"  Will protested.

I hyperventilated while they argued, trying to calm myself.  Soon enough, the lights began to die down and the pain seemed to numb.  Beads of sweat dripped down my face.

"Please...Stop." I gasped.  Both of them went silent while I caught my breath.

"I'm fine, okay?"

Alec let out an exasperated sigh.

"You scared me half to death, Ara."  He let out a nervous laugh.  "Please don't scare us like that again."

I couldn't help but laugh.

"Don't worry, I won't."  I shuffled upstairs and into my room.  It was dark, except for the bit of light that leaked in through the crack in the curtains.  I found an old tee shirt and a pair of sweatpants in a heap on the floor.  Mr. Kensington must have stopped by the salvation army, which I had learned was a cheap store where donated clothes were sold.  I was glad to smell detergent and fabric softener when I slipped them on, at least I wasn't wearing another woman's perperation.  Once I was dressed, i combed my hair and walked over to the door just as someone softly knocked it.  I opened it to find Will nervously rubbing the back of his neck.

"Are you alright?  You know, after all of that screaming and stuff."  I nodded.

"I'm fine, I still really don't know what happened," i confessed and welcomes him in before plopping down on my bed.  Will leaned against the wall.  He had a blue paint stain on his cheek.  I figured he must have been painting.

"It's good to know you're okay.  Did you burn yourself with like a flashlight or something?"  He asked.  I bit my lip.  I didn't burn myself, I had found my inner power.  This is what the scientists had done to me.

"You probably won't believe me..."

"Of course I will!"

"Well, first you should know, I'm not exactly who you think I am."  Will raised an eyebrow.

"Who are you?!"  He asked.

"My parents, they gave me away to a secret facility when I was a baby.  They tested and experimented on me for my whole life, so much pain and suffering.  And I guess whatever they wanted me to do wasn't working, so they sold me to your dad as a servant.  Anyways, I guess this morning, my 'powers' sort of started working."  I must have said all of it too fast because he had a puzzled look on his face.

"S-so you're a......superhero?"  I couldn't help but let out loud laugh at his comment.

"I don't think I've ever done anything heroic enough to be a superhero."  I chuckled.  Will smirked.

"Don't worry, I won't tell anyone, and I do belive you," he reassured.  I smiled and jumped up to hug him.  He pulled me close, but pulled away at the last second.  "But wait, what about Alec?  How are we supposed to explain the whole 'light' thing?"

"I don't know, I'll think of something."

"You know, the flashlight would work."  I shrugged.

"Not bad."  I laughed, he laughed too, and at the last second, he pulled me close again and pressed his own l ips against mine.
