Enjolras woke up. He went out of their barricade. He went around Paris. There were no barricades left. Their barricade is the only one standing.

"I must go back. I must tell them. We are the only barricade left." He told himself.

He ran on his way to Café Musain. When he arrived there, he passed through the secret passageway.

"I was right Enjolras." Marius told him "The rain has damaged the gunpowder. We are very low on ammunition."

"We are the only barricade left." Enjolras declared

"What?"

"We are the only ones left" He stated.

There was silence on that barricade. Not until Enjolras spoke again.

"The people have not stirred. We were abandoned by those who still live in fear. But let us not waste lives! Let all who wish to go from here!"

The people on that barricade were devastated. Silence came back again. But a young boy started to sing. That boy was Gavroche.

"Do you hear the people sing? Singing the song of angry men." He sang

"It is the music of the people-"Lesgles continued

"Who will not be slaves again." Prouvaire and Feuilly followed

Then, everyone sang except for Monsieur Madeleine.

"When the beating of your heart echoes the beating of the drums, there is a life about to start when tomorrow comes!"

After singing that song, the others went to their positions. Feuilly and Marius went to Enjolras.

"Enjolras! We need more ammunition." Feuilly told him

"I'm going to the colonnade." Marius interrupted. "There are dead bodies there with dry ammunition. The gunpowder's wet through."

They didn't know that Gavroche sneaked out to go out of the barricade. He wanted to help his friends.

"Little people know when little people fight." He started to sing. "We may look easy pickings."

"Gavroche!" Combeferre whispered to the boy when he saw him

"But we've got some bite!" the boy continued.

"Gavroche! Come back up!" Combeferre told him again

Gavroche didn't mind Combeferre. While picking up ammunition, he faced the National Guard.

"So never kick a dog! Because he's just a pup!"

The National Guard fired their gun but missed Gavroche. They even laughed like they were just playing a game and killing a dog. Gavroche looked up.

"Gavroche!"

He didn't follow Combeferre. He continued to sing.

"We'll fight like twenty armies! And we won't give up!"

Courfeyrac saw his close friend Gavroche. He tried to save him.

"Gavroche! Gavroche, what are you doing?" He told Gavroche

But the National Guard fired his gun again. This time, it hit Gavroche. The bullet went in his leg. But he didn't stop singing.

"So you better run for cover when the pup grows!"

He was shot in the stomach and head this time. And that shot killed the young boy. Courfeyrac got out of the barricade and took Gavroche's little body and brought him inside.

"You at the barricades listen to this!" a National Guard yelled "The people of Paris sleep in their beds. You have no chance! No chance at all! Why throw your lives away?"

Enjolras was a brave leader. And he spoke in behalf of the people on the barricade.

"Let us die facing our foes. Make them bleed while we can!" he told them

"Make them pay through the nose!" Combeferre declared as he comforted Courfeyrac

"Make them pay for every man!" Courfeyrac stated. He was still weeping about Gavroche's death.

"Let others rise to take our place until the earth is free!!!" Enjolras said bravely as he raised his gun

"Cannons!!" a National Guard shouted

The Les Amis started firing when the Guards let out their first cannon. They successfully killed the men holding that cannon. But there were more cannons.

"There are more men! There are more men Enjolras!" Lesgles exclaimed

The Guards started to blow the barricade with their cannons. Then, they advanced to the barricade that was almost broken. Some of the Amis had fallen also.

Combeferre begged the homeowner of one of the houses near Café Musain to let Prouvaire in. But the homeowner didn't even care about them. Joly brought them in the Café. Combeferre closed the door.

"We need a door. We need to barricade the door!" he shouted

A loud thud was heard outside.

"Marius!" Monsieur Madeleine cried out

Enjolras asked the others to go upstairs and when they were upstairs, Enjolras and Courfeyrac chopped the stairs off to prevent the Guards to reach them. Then they heard a scream.

Feuilly

Joly, Combeferre, Courfeyrac and Enjolras were the ones left upstairs because most of them were shot downstairs. But the National Guard decided to shoot them from downstairs because the floor upstairs were wooden. Three of them were killed. That leaves Enjolras untouched by bullets. He felt alone. He can't escape.

The Guards managed to go upstairs. Enjolras was facing a firing squad already. He took the red cloth. But there was another member of the Les Amis going up.

Grantaire

Grantaire requested the squad that he will be shot alongside Enjolras. He went beside their leader. The leader raised the red cloth.

"Vive le France!"

Both of them were executed. Enjolras fell back on the window of the Café.
