Frub stood there staring at me with a blank face while everyone else in the stands were running around in circles. I looked down at the sandy floor and shuffled my feet. He rubbed my arms in reassurement. I looked up at him with pouty eyes and embarrassment. I turned away immediately and began walking back to the stands. The participating teams had to stand on a certain deck that reached slightly outwards from the bleachers. When a player is chosen for a battle, every player stays except for the chosen player of course. I turned to see Frub following in my footsteps. The pther members were heading in their respective directions. Not a single one of them looked disappointed or ashamed that they lost. They all seemed determined instead.
"Now let's begin with our one on one matches!" Mr. Yajima announced. The crowd burst into cheers.
"Our first match will test the skills of Fairy Tail's Nalu Percy and Liberam's Siren!"
Wait. Why would we be participating in this round when we were already in the last round? I looked up at all of the announcers on there little deck, sitting behind a table that was covered with a white table cloth. What exactly are they up to? Whatever the case, I still had to go back out there and fight. My comrades wished me luck as I stepped out onto the sandy floor once again. I glanced over at where Siren was entering. There didn't seem to be much to her. All she wore was a pink dress that flowed lightly at the bottom. Small ruffles edged the bottom and extended about two inches downward. I forgot to mention that the dress was really short, it reached to her mid thigh. Under the dress she wore black leggings that came down to her ankle. There were no shoes on her feet. The sleeves on her dress reached her elbows and the edges were laced. Her blonde hair was pulled up into a messy bun that was tightly secured with a ponytail and bobby pins. The irises of her eyes were a golden yellow just like mine only duller. There was no life in those eyes. She was frowning. I wonder what to expect from this girl.
We stood in the center of the arena awaiting the signal to begin fighting. The sound of the gong rung in my ears as I quickly dodged what seemed to be a laser beam. She's quick and smart. I can see it in her eyes. I shouldn't reveal anything that could cost this battle for me. I stood up straight, thoughts racing through my mind like a cheetah running around in circles at full speed. Though many thoughts ran through my mind, not a single one seemed useful.
"You have no chance of winning." She said in a dull tone that replicated a ghost's howl. She seemed twisted and mysterious. I noticed a scar on her left cheek that reached down her neck.
"How'd you get that?" I asked pointing at it. Something must've clicked inside her after I asked because she was simultaneously giving direct attacks. I wasn't able to dodge either, each attack sent me flying backwards and into the wall of the arena. I groaned in pain as my stomach tightened.
"You don't need to know that!" She shouted. What is she so mad about? How the heck did she get that scar? My hands and knees collided with the ground as I fell from the wall. She stared at me with raging fury in her eyes. I stood up but was quickly knocked back by another attack. I was in so much pain, so much that I couldn't even think straight for a second. Why can't I land a direct hit on her? I remembered one time when I was in a situation like this with Mila Nami.
*FLASHBACK*
"Why did you that?" I heard Mila ask Nami. I was on the ground, slightly unconscious from Nami's hit. I twitched, showing that I was still alive.
"She needs to become strong," Nami replied to Mila's stammering voice, "so she can protect you from any kind of harm." Those words touched both Mila and I deeply. I stood back up, tired and beaten but still able to fight back.
"No matter what, I will always believe in the both of you." She said before I landed a solid hit.
*FLASHBACK ENDS*
The arena was silent as the wind slowly swirled around in circles. My face was a blank slate as I rose from the wall. The crowd was in awe at the sight of a beaten down fighter slowly rising to gain the advantage or upper hand. They were brimming with curiosity, wondering "what will happen next?" Little did they know, they were in for a surprise. Everyone was on the edge of their seats and waiting for something big to happen. I jerked my head up unexpectedly with a grim expression. The pain in my abdomen was completely gone as if it was never there. My body was taking on another appearance, one that I haven't taken on in years.
The corkscrew pigtails were undone and my hair was let loose all the way down my back and ending at my waist. Scales were beginning to appear upon the surface of my skin. Showing up under my eyes and above my eyebrows, on my forearms and cheeks. The irises of my eyes had turned a blood red. There was nothing special about how I looked right now, the only thing this appearance showed was that I activated Dragon Force. The ultimate form of a dragon slayer. While in Dragon Force, a wizard's magic power increases and their body can take twice as much damage before finally breaking.
It was my turn to land a direct attack. I sprung forward in the bank of an eye, music playing in my head as I fought to the rhythm. My attacks grew stronger with each critical hit. I was getting carried away, this isn't good. I couldn't stop, my body had been taken over by this overwhelming power. If I don't stop now I'm gonna kill this poor girl. I stopped to draw my breath and noticed that my attacks were having absolutely no effect n Siren whatsoever.
"What?!" How is that possible? I unleashed my full power on her and she doesn't even seem beaten. I sighed and laughed at my weakness.
"Stop holding back Nalu Percy. We both know you can do more than what you've been letting off." She said with a smirk. What is with this chic? Is she some sort of demon? Wait, that's it. I haven't quite mastered it yet but I could use that spell.
"Is that a challenge?" I said back.
