Regrets

I held your hand, then let it go,
Forgot the promises from long ago.
Words I used, and tears I fought,
Mistakes I made, the pain they brought.

If I had tried and you had stayed,
Perhaps our sight on each other wouldn't have faded.
If I hadn't misjudged, if I'd held on tight,
Maybe I wouldn't miss your touch each night.

If I could turn back time, you'd know,
The love I felt but failed to show.
Now I cry as my heart still aches,
Hoping you'd return, though it's too late.
