I roll my eyes and glare at Corey as I walk to Patrick's car. I lean forward and look in the window at him. He has a stupid grin on his face as he looks my body up and down.
"Will you open the door for me?" I ask quietly and his smirk fades. He reaches over and opens the passenger door, pushing it open. I get in and do my best to close the door again.
"What happened? You look... angry." He whispers, looking over at me.
"He was scaring me, Patrick." I whisper back and he frowns
"What're you talking about? Corey wouldn't hurt anyone, except in a game. You know that." He says and I sigh
"Yes I know. But he wasn't himself. He just got mad all of a sudden." I explain and he pats my knee
"I'm sure he has an explanation. Just hear him out." Patrick says and I hear the back door open. I look back and see Corey climbing in the backseat. He smiles at me slightly and I just face forward again.
"Untie me, Pat." I say, holding my hands out. He nods and carefully undos the knot on the belt. It slips from my wrists and I sigh, rubbing at them.
"Hey you're bleeding." Patrick says and I look down to see the spot where Corey pinched me dripping blood. I know it was an accident but it still made me feel weird.
"Wait what?!" Corey gasps and I glance back at him. He looks genuinely concerned and I feel horrible for being mad at him.
"It's fine, I bleed easily." I assure and he bites his lip. I turn around again and Patrick starts to drive. After a few minutes of silence, Corey clears his throat.
"Ev I don't get why you're mad at me." He says, his voice raspy
"Yea? I don't get why you got so pissed when the tide came in! It wasn't a big deal and there you go, screaming and storming off! We could've waited it out you know? We didn't need to leave!" I shout, facing him. He groans and runs his hands down the side of his face.
"Okay that was wrong. I shouldn't have yelled at you and I should've been more careful. But can I please explain when there's not someone else... listening?" He asks and Patrick laughs
"Ok." I agree, crossing my arms over my chest. Corey doesn't live that far from the beach but I lean my head back and close my eyes, trying to avoid conversation. After a few minutes I feel the car stop and I lift my head up, looking around. We're pulled over by the front of Corey's building.
"As fun as this was, goodnight." Patrick says and I laugh, smiling at him as I get out of his car. Corey runs around me and opens the front door for me. As frustrated as I am, I grin at him and go inside. When we get upstairs, Brandon is asleep on the couch. I go to Corey's room and dig through his dresser for a dry shirt. He comes in behind me and watches me. I pull my jacket off and slip on a random white tshirt I found, turning around to look at Corey. He doesn't say anything so I just go to the bathroom. I take my makeup off and put my damp hair up in a bun. I stroll back to Corey's room and his door is cracked open. I lean against his door frame and peek in. He's sat on the edge of his bed, just wearing sweatpants, his head in his hands. Even though I'm terribly confused, I feel so bad for being mad. I push the door open and quietly walk over to him. I sit down and touch his arm. He flinches slightly and looks over at me.
"I didn't mean to mess this up." He whispers and my heart breaks when his voice cracks.
"It's okay. It was just so... crazy." I nod and he groans.
"Okay I was wrong to be like that. But I just wanted tonight to be perfect. Everything was going so, so well and then it was fuc- sorry I won't swear anymore, um, it was ruined. I really wanted this to go perfect because you're perfect and I just, I don't know." He sighs and I don't say anything for a few minutes.
"Well," I grab his hand and lace our fingers together, "I guess I forgive you, because I know it was an accident and you didn't mean it. And because what you said was cute" I tease and he chuckles.
"Thanks, I'm really sorry." He says and I stare into his eyes. I see that same look in them that I saw at the game when he hurt me. The same look of pain and regret. I frown and hug him, falling against him. He falls backwards so I'm on top of him as we lay on his bed. He laughs as he wraps his arms around my waist, keeping me pressed against him.
"What're we gonna do now?" He mumbles, his voice sending vibrations across my skin.
"Do you... want to watch the stars?" I ask, leaning on my elbows.
"How are we gonna do that?" He answers
"On the roof, love." I say and he smiles. I jump up and take his hand, pulling him off the bed.
"We need blankets." I say and he nods. He goes into his closest and I see a pile of blankets on a shelf. He grabs them and I follow him out. We take the stairs all the way up to the roof and lay out the blankets. We lay down, my head on Corey's chest as we stare up at the sky. After a little while, he clears his throat and runs his fingers through my hair.
"Ev, do you remember how I said I wanted to help you?" He asks
"Yes." I hum
"Well I was thinking, and I have some ideas." He says and I roll over so I can look at him.
"Tell me." I answer
"I thought maybe you could grow your hair out." He explains and I raise my eyebrows at him
"Honey my hair is already grown out." I chuckle and he rolls his eyes
"No this hair." He drags his finger across the shaved side of my head.
"I mean I could try. It's annoying to do though." I say
"And I get that. But I thought if you wouldn't have to see it and the scar then you wouldn't be reminded all the time." He answers and I smile
"Alright I can do that." I agree and he grins
"Good. Also, maybe you should try and work in a different ward at the hospital." He whispers and my mouth falls open
"Corey the kids-"
"I know. You can visit them and still do your butterfly thing but, I see how upset you are when you come over after work. I can tell it hurts you." He answers and I sigh
"You're right." I mumble
"I know. I know more about you than you think." He says
"That sounds very creepy." I giggle and he laughs. He sits up and presses a kiss to my lips.
"I guess you do know more than I think. More than I know about myself possibly. With that being said, I'm truly glad you are my boyfriend." I grin and he laughs
"Me too. But did we have our first fight tonight?" He asks and I snort
"I wouldn't call it a fight, more like an argument." I shrug and he smiles. We continue to watch the stars for a while. Then clouds roll in and cover them up, the temperature dropping. I convince Corey to go inside and we end up going to bed, falling asleep after we chat for a while.
