The most wanted man in the city, the one-armed bandit, a man otherwise known as James Scott, ran softly and silently through the trees, his hunched back tilting against the weight of his sack that was slung across his armless shoulder.

He came to a halt, frantically searched the ground for an opening.

Gunshots in the distance.

He with a cry of fear and excitement he reached in his pocket, pulled out a silver coin. He banged it against the ground, listening.

Thud, thud, bang!

Once he heard the bang, he lay the coin down on the dirt, and started to dig up his shallow hole he had covered a few hours earlier.

He found the opening, and just as he heard shouts in the distance, he slipped in his passage, slipping the heavy sack in with him.

Then silence.
