The café was a haven from the crisp November air outside, its warm hues and the soft hum of conversations wrapping Mina in a cocoon of comfort.
She sat at her usual spot by the window, fingers gliding across her laptop keyboard while the steam from her coffee curled lazily into the air.
Every so often, her eyes drifted to the outside world, watching bundled-up students scurry to class, their breath visible in the chilly morning.
For a fleeting moment, Mina allowed herself to pause.
She leaned back in her chair, closed her eyes, and exhaled deeply. The peaceful silence was something she had grown to treasure, especially amidst the chaos that had recently started creeping into her life.
But as she reopened her eyes, the peace shattered.
Mina flinched, her heart leaping to her throat as her gaze landed on Chaeyoung's grinning face pressed against the café window, his breath fogging the glass.
He looked stupid, his hands framing his face as if he were a lost puppy pleading to be let in.
Mina's hand instinctively flew to her chest, both to calm her racing heart and to suppress the laughter threatening to bubble up.
"What an idiot," she muttered under her breath, though a small, amused smile tugged at her lips.
Chaeyoung, oblivious or perhaps entirely on purpose, blew onto the glass and scrawled, "Can I join?" in the fog with his finger.
Mina rolled her eyes, but she couldn't help the chuckle that escaped her lips.
Shaking her head, she raised her hand and gestured for him to come inside.
Chaeyoung's grin widened—if that were even possible—and he practically bounded into the café like an overexcited golden retriever.
Mina sighed again, but this time it wasn't from peace.
"Here goes my quiet morning," she muttered, though deep down, she knew she didn't entirely mind.
Chaeyoung stepped into the café, the warmth immediately greeted him, along with a cheerful "Good morning!" from the barista.
He returned the greeting with just as much enthusiasm, his voice carrying the kind of unshakable cheerfulness Mina found both baffling and oddly charming.
Spotting her by the window, Chaeyoung made his way over, his bag slung over one shoulder.
He plopped it down onto the floor before peeling off his scarf and beanie, shaking his hair free. Mina, who had been mid-sip of her coffee, found herself momentarily frozen.
