Chapter 95: God Only Knows

"That's weird." Said the nurse when Jake left the hospital room where my brother was recuperating.

"What?" My dad came inside from the hospital corridor, where he was talking to my mom.

"Your son's heartbeat. After that boy left, they slowed down." She observed, confused about why that happened. She was staring at the heart monitor as she pointed that out. They check his health regularly and it just so happens that she caught that when Jake left to go to the restroom.

My father was amused by the phenomenon, distracting himself from the fact that my brother hadn't awakened since yesterday.

"My son is in love with that boy, nurse. Even unconscious, he can tell when that kid is in the room or not." He explained to her what the logical conclusion was.

The nurse kept staring at him in disbelief. As if my father was talking crazy.

"How would your son know he is in the room if he hasn't been awake since yesterday?" She challenged him. She is human, so he cannot divulge anything related to wolf stuff.

"I don't know, ma'am. Maybe it's his scent, who knows? I'm not a doctor, I'm a businessman." He said in a snarky tone, no longer amused by her ignorance. Well, he is right about one thing: no one actually knows why or what's happening.

After the nurse finished her quick examination of my brother's vital signs, she left looking intrigued. Then my mother came into the room and presented us with her feminine wisdom.

"His wolf knows when Jake is in the room and responds to that. Regardless of Skylar's brain activity, his wolf spirit is alive and well inside of him." She gave her opinion on the matter.

"Yes, but why would his wolf care about Jake? It's not like they are mates..." Dad dismissed, puzzled by the anomaly.

"They might not be mates, but considering how Skylar feels for Jake, it's not strange that his wolf reacts to him the way that it does. At least, that's my theory." She argued, taking a seat next to her son's bed.

Both my parents have been worried sick about my brother not waking up since yesterday. My dad spent the night with my brother in his hospital room and now we are all here again. Jake and I came in from Ravenwood in one of their vans.

It's Tuesday. December, 10th. We are all waiting anxiously for my brother to show signs of recovery after he was buried under the avalanche. Because he was the last one to be rescued, he was the person who stayed without oxygen the most. That is worrying his team of doctors, especially his neurologist, who already came earlier to check on him.

My father hasn't left his son's side since yesterday. Mom slept alone in the hotel they checked in yesterday. Two warriors are waiting for them outside the hospital - wherever the Alpha goes, they go - and Santos is working from the hotel, since he is here in his capacity as our assistant.

Yesterday, my father called Angela Lockwood since she was already in Colorado following up her father's recuperation from the heart surgery and asked her to be the acting Headmaster of Ravenwood. He knows she has a pack to run, as much as he does, but it would only be until the Winter Break, which is next week.

At this point, he needed to put someone he could trust in that academy, and considering she is in the National Alpha Council, she was the easiest solution to the problem. My dad could not afford to do that and even if he had the time, his mind is solely focused on his son at the moment.

I am sure anyone who is a parent can understand that. Actually, even if you aren't.

While she got the lead on everything going on over there, he could focus his attention on his son, as he should. My mom came in this morning as soon as the visitation hours would allow her. The four of us are focused on my brother's recuperation.
