The court was quiet and peaceful. Princess Aerella attended council meetings and once a week she'd visit the people of Kings Landing and the orphanage. Three times a week she'd fly on dragon back with her husband, and on one of those three days, her aunt and uncles would accompany them.
Prince Baelon loved to go on dragon back with his mother or father. King Viserys would often sit the young Prince Baelon on his lap and in front of his whole court he claimed he would be the next king after his mother. "One day, my boy, this throne shall be yours and you shall command the realm as you see fit" many could attest that the Queen consort, Alicent Hightower did not like that.
Aerella had always been fond of Princess Helaena, her sweet and kind aunt. She was innocent, perhaps the most innocent one in her family yet as time passed, Aerella saw something shift in her aunt. It was like she was seeing another person, she could not be the Helaena that she knew. This Helaena was outspoken, flirty, and seductive towards Jacerys, her husband. The young prince was loyal. He had him for his wife only. Especially after their second and third sons were born.
Prince Aemon and Prince Monterys were born two years after their eldest brother Baelon. And one year later, two daughters were finally born, one was named Visenya, after the conquering queen and the second was Aemma, after their grandmother. The realm celebrated the birth of the four Targaryen Velaryon children. That same year the princess was born, Prince Aemond Targaryen married Lucrecia Lannister, daughter of Jason Lannister.
One day a raven arrived for the princess, her grandmother had written to her about Lord Vaemond Velaryon. After her grandfather's fall in the Step Stones, Princess Rhaenys became the lady in the absence of her lord husband. Her good brother, Vaemond Velaryon deemed he more fit to govern than Rhaenys and Jacaerys Velaryon. So, the lord was seeking an audience, what he didn't know was that Alicent Hightower nor her father were running the kingdom as many had believed but Aerella Targaryen and Ser Lyonel were.
The court room was full, on the throne sat none other than Princess Aerella Targaryen, beside her, her husband Prince Jacaerys, and the royal hand Lord Lyonel Strong. Her mother and father smiled proudly, as did her new stepfather Prince Daemon Targaryen. Lord Vaemond Velaryon went on and on about his blood, he forgot his niece, Laenor's only daughter had the blood of the Velaryon's too. "I think you have forgotten that I am Velaryon uncle, after grandsire's passing, Jacaerys, my husband shall be the next lord of Driftmark, and after him, Aemon shall be the lord of Driftmark" everyone watched silently. Vaemond scoffed, he knew she was a Velaryon but her brothers were not. "That is not true Velaryon!" he exclaimed as he pointed at her husband.
She scoffed at his words. "And you! Do you think you sell better than me because you are a woman? A princess?" he asked and she smiled before standing. "I am princess. I am the crown princess. Daughter of the Crown Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen. Granddaughter of King Viserys Targaryen first of his name. I am the descendant of King Jaehaerys the conciliator, I have the blood of the conqueror running through my veins. What about you? You are a second son who stands to inherit nothing" she whispers the last part.
"He is not a true Velaryon! And certainly no nephew of mine! He is a bastard! And you!" he pointed at her. "You are a whore! Just like your mother!" he yelled, murmurs and gasps were heard around the room. "You will not speak to the princess that way!" lord Lyonel began. Laenor and Daemon began to argue with Vaemond. "I will have your tongue for your words against my daughter," Laenor said but before anyone could react Aerella cut Vaemond's head. "He can keep his tongue," she said. Jacaerys walked over to her. He walked out of the room with Vaemond's head, feeding it to Vermax who was waiting for his meal. The rest of his body was taken away to be prepared by the silent sisters. Daemon and Laenor were smiling proudly, Rhaenyra was too but she was concerned with the turn of events.
Aerella turned to the Hightower family, she looked at both Alicent and Otto, it was as if she was daring them to try something against her. But, they did not dare to, they knew she was capable of many things, and now they knew murder was one of those things. Once again, Aerella had reunited with her mother, but now the future queen was married to her uncle as well, Prince Daemon. Princess Rhaenyra loved her grandchildren and dotted on them like no other. As the family sat in the garden, joined by the king who felt slightly better and wanted to see his daughter.
Aegon saw the family he never saw, the love he never had, the woman he would never have. Aerella sat next to Jacaerys who had one wrapped around her, she carried Monterys, and her mother held Visenya while the king had Aemma on his lap, Laenor held Aemon, and Daemon Baelon. They were happy, he wanted that. In the other room, Princess Helaena watched Aerella be happy and loved, she was respected and cared for by her husband. Helaena's obsession wasn't bugs as many believed, it was her nephew, Jacaerys, her niece's husband. Why could she not have been married to him? Why was she married off to her drunken brother and not to a good kind man like Jacaerys? She had been trying for months to get Jacaerys to acknowledge her mother more than he did, more than the hellos and short pleasantries. No one would ever suspect the sweet, shy, and quiet Helaena, at least that's what she told herself.
Princess Aerella was in a good place in her life, her grandfather had told her that he was planning to step down, he had announced it at a meeting, Rhaenyra was to be crowned soon, a surprise but he deemed her ready and everyone had agreed, no on will see the betrayal coming, soon enough the House of the dragon will begin to crumble and nothing will ever be the same ever again.
