AT THE SIGHT of El, Rhiannon's defenses crumbled from steel to soft petals, a grin tugging at the corners of her mouth.

El mirrored the smile, on the verge of tears from seeing her friends. Mike — after almost driving himself crazy trying to reach El over his radio, searching tirelessly through static frequencies — was the first to reunite with her. She was grabbing at his shoulders and pulling him into an enveloping bear hug, mumbling about the exact days it'd been since they last saw each other because they both kept count. To his surprise, the moment he pulled away, El's sinewy frame was moving toward Rhiannon like a comet. The girl buried her face against Rhiannon's (Steve's) jacket as they eased into the embrace.

"Where the hell have you been?" Hopper said as he snaked his arms around the both of them, pinning the youngest with a stern frown. It was a rare sight — this intimidating man, with thick skin and a heart as tough as iron, softened by these two girls. He tightened his hold, kept them close for safeguarding.

El tilted her head toward him and scoffed. "Where have you been?"

Mike's features transformed at record speed. A flash of betrayal, a tendril of rage. "You've been hiding her!" he lashed out, shoving Hopper. "And you—" He sent Rhiannon a stony glare— "You knew she was alive! Why didn't you say anything?"

"I promised not to," Rhiannon said. "It wasn't my secret to tell."

"So, what?" Mike snapped. "We all deserved to know!"

"Hey, don't take it out on her. I asked her to keep her word no matter what," Hopper chastised with a tight jaw. But Mike wasn't receiving the news all too well. Fury igniting in his eyes, the boy lunged at him. He didn't get far before Hopper bunched a fistful of his sweater and yanked him into a room down the hall. "Let's talk. Alone."
