Jacob's POV

~ The day of the Wild Forest Attack ~

We run through the forest, running from the attack on the Pack we've lived in for the last six years. I don't know why they attacked, but Miles seems to think it was because of him and our pups.

"Come on, Cameron!" Miles whisper-yells at Cameron. "We can't let them catch us!"

"I'm trying, Papa!" Cameron whimpers as a twig jabs his little foot. He's trying to keep up and stay quiet.

"Jacob..." Miles looks at me, tears in his eyes. "Take them."

"Darling, no." I start crying. "I can't lose you."

"Baby, you're a Rogue. They can't tell where you're from. But they can track me to my Pack. They'll kill everyone until they find me." Miles says, wiping my tears.

"I can't." I cry. "Not without you. Please."

"Baby." Miles cups my cheeks to make me look at him. "They want me. They want my blood. Since I had the twins in my Pack Lands, they're registered as Abernathy's. They'll come after them too. I need you to hide them."

"I can't. Not without you." I cry. "I can't live without you."

Miles nods, and puts our foreheads together. "I know, Baby. I know." He sniffles. "If... If you can... Wait until the fighting is done and leave them here for the rescuing Pack to take with them. Midnight River is a good Pack. They'd be well cared for there."

"Okay." I gasp, trying to breathe. "Okay."

"Just... know that I love you. Until my existence is wiped from the universe." Miles looks me in the eyes, not looking away until he's sure I understand.

"I love you." I cry heavily, understanding that once our pups are safe, he's going to sacrifice himself. To save us. To save them.

He kisses me sweetly, then kneels to say his goodbyes to our pups.

"My beautiful babies." Miles's lip trembles. "Stay with Daddy for now." He brushes their cheeks with his hands. "And remember that Daddy and Papa love you. Forever." He kisses their foreheads and stands before walking back to where the fighting was.

Cameron opens his mouth to scream after Miles. But I cover it with my hand. "We have to be quiet, babies." I whisper through my tears. I hold my babies close, both of them trying to pry my hands from their mouths.

"Papa!" Cameron screams into my hand. "Papa come back!"

"Cammie." I weep, holding my pups. "Cammie, we need to be quiet."

My babies look up at me, seeing the tears in my eyes as well. "We can't let them catch us. Papa said they would hurt you."

Evie nods silently against my hand. Cameron still struggles, trying to get Miles to come back.

I feel it. I feel when he dies. It's quick, but I feel the scorching pain in my chest. I fall to my knees, weeping as a sudden storm rages. "Miles..." I weep quietly, trying my best to stay upright.

"Daddy?" Evie looks at me quietly. I had let go of my pups, to keep from falling on my face. "Daddy, what's wrong?"

"Papa..." I look at her, tears running down my face. "Papa has gone to live with the Goddess."

She's a smart girl. She knows what I'm saying. She starts crying and latches onto me.

"Cameron." I look at my baby boy. "Cammie, come here." I hold my other arm open. "Please, Baby."
