Ashton's POV
It's been three years... Three years searching for my Angel's brother. I'm close to giving up at this point. But I won't because I promised him. Beta Ji gave me little information. Jordan was Mated to a Pack member there, but then they left.
I'm starting to think they've been hiding in the human territory between Packs. That would make it even harder to find them. We can't exactly walk around in our Wolf forms and sniff around humans.
But, luckily Beta Ji gave me a few pictures of the two of them, so I was able to make a 'missing' poster. I kept it to the Wolf web, not needing the humans to delve into anything.
Jordan's POV
"Shit." I spit out as I see both my own face and my Mate's on a 'missing' poster online. "Aiyalah, we need to go." I rush to her side.
"What, why?" She groans as she sits up.
"Midnight River has posted 'missing' posters for us." I explain, as I whirl around the room, packing. "We need to leave. They can't find us."
"Wait, hang on." She groans, rubbing her face. "Honey, I doubt Midnight River would be with him."
"Aiyalah..." I kneel in front of her swollen belly. "I will do anything to keep you and our pup safe. Going back to Higher Parks, or even Shaking Waters... I don't trust them."
"Midnight River is a good Pack." She says, taking my hands. "Honey... They are good." She looks me in the eye. "They've helped Wild Forest rebuild. They took out Northern Mountain and Broken Shadows. Those Packs were known for Wolf trafficking and mistreating their members."
"I know." I sigh, leaning into her belly.
"Maybe there's a reason they're looking for us." She strokes my hair. "Maybe T-"
"Please." I whisper. "Don't say his name. I can't." I feel my eyes water.
"Maybe he got Mated to a Wolf there." She says softly. "Maybe he got out and is living happily."
"I hope so." I sniffle. "That poor boy deserved so much better than he got. But I couldn't do anything. I couldn't even sneak him food when our parents decided to starve him as punishment."
"You were a child yourself, Honey." She says softly.
"Not when I left." I sniffle. "I could have taken him with me."
"No, you couldn't." She says softly. "Jayus would have hunted you down. Killed you... And we'd never have met."
"I hope that bastard dies." I sniffle. "Let's get some stuff packed though."
"Where are we going?" She asks, as I stand.
"Midnight River." I smile softly. "Might as well find out what they want, right?"
"That's my Warrior." She smiles at me. "I love you, Jordan."
"I love you, Baby." I peck her perfect lips and finish packing. "One day, we'll live somewhere where we don't have to cram everything we own into one suitcase each." I sigh.
"Bigger and brighter things, Honey." She says, grasping my hand. We make our way down the hotel elevator and to the car. "Let's go on an adventure." She grins, buckling in.
"Let's." I grin back at her.
It takes a few hours to get to Midnight River, and Aiyalah sleeps most of the drive, but that's fine. Her soft snores and the low music help keep me in the moment, instead of thinking about how terrified I am that we're driving to our deaths.
