Maya's POV

Feelings. They were everywhere. When I though of Riley, when I saw her entering the room or we just talked. Every skin or eye contact were the cause of my heartbeat raising higher. Keeping it normal while I was around her was getting harder and harder. I had keep my distance but it wasn't easy since I was so used to being with her everyday.

"If Lucas is here today I'll talk to him. About what happened on Friday." Riley said as we were entering the classroom. There weren't any people yet which make sence since we came earlier than normal.
"That would be a good idea." I tried to sound certain and friendly to make her a little bit more comfortable and sure because of the worrieness in her thember. Apparently it worked because her facial exression softened.

We took our seats.

"This year is not going so well, is it?" She asked while doing her famous anxious puppy eyes.
"It's been only three weeks. It will get better." I put my hand on hers causing my pulse to go unsteady.
"Or worse." The brunette kidded quietly and then smiled warmly.

I noticed her glancing at our hands and thought she was uncomfortable. My instincts reacted fast and my hand started moving away but she quickly caught it with hers.

"Let's stay like that. You always makes me feel safe." Riley whispered while rubbing her hand in mine making me feel so many things at once. Was that even a normal thing to say to your best friend?

The opening door in front of us interrupted our little moment and a bunch of students came in. Lucas and Farkle were two of them. Farkle smiled to both of us and then took his seat which was behind me.

We weren't sitting the way we did in middle school since the classrooms were bigger and the students were more. Riley was front row, I was behind her, Farkle behind me and Lucas next to the other girl in our corefour.

Lucas was right behind Farkle. He didn't say anything but I could feel the awkwardness in the air. He smiled shyly not making eye contact with anyone and took his seat.
I knew it was a bad think to say but I was relieved not having to watch him and Riley kiss or be cute. I smirked to myself making sure nobody noticed.

The class started and Mr. Tommas came in. He was my favourite teacher from here along with Mr. Matthews but I didn't think he liked me as much as I did. He probably thought of me just as the stuped rebbel girl of the class. The black - haired teacher was always a bit harsher with me than the others. I was probably gonna be the 'Got most detentions in one year" person in the yearbook.

"Good morning, kids." He said and took his seat behind the desk "So... We're having a new student today. Is he here?"

As we were looking around the door opened a really familiar face entered.

"Sorry I'm late, sir. I had problems with the my car." My jaw dropped and my eyes widened.

The same hazel - sparkling eyes, the same husky yet calm voice, the same smile. It was the guy from the party.

"It's okay. Just don't be late again." Mr. Tommas nodded and made a gesture telling him to take a seat. I followed the direction to his hand to see that the only free seat was the one next to me.

The boy noticed me after he took his seat and looked kind of surprised. After that he smiled at me and I did the same. The next hour a lot of glances were exchanged between us.

I spotted someone else's orbs focusing on the boy. It was Riley. She was looking a bit bothered by his appearance. Then her eyes moved to me. She took a fast glance, bit her lip worriedly and turned around.
