Maya's POV

I tried to ignore it. I tried to ignore the feeling that I got when Riley looked at me with those deep brown eyes. I tried to ignore the butterflies in my stomach whenever she held my hand or we cuddled while talking at her bay window. I tried to ignore the burning feeling in my chest when she was with Lucas. And it was working. It was working all summer... Until now.

"So Maya, are you coming with us at 'Topanga's' after school?" Riley asked while we were walking to our next class.
"I don't know. See, I have this drawing to finish..." I tried making an excuse which actually was kinda true. I agreed to participate in a school exhibition. This year I was planning to do more of these things.
"Oh, come on! You haven't hung out with us all week. It isn't the same without you." The tall girl took my hand and looked at me with puppy eyes. "Don't give that look." I looked away and tried to avoid her eyes. I couldn't handle the cuteness.
"Pleaseee!" She sounded like a three-year-old.
"Okay, okay, I'll come." I finally agreed because I didn't want her to make it any harder than it already was.

After school Me, Riley, Farkle and Lucas all went to 'Topanga's'. The place belonged to Riley's mum which explained the name. We sat at our table.
"Hi, guys." I heard a similar voice talking to us. That was my mother Katie who also happened to work here.
"Hi" We all said in once.
"Maya, I thought you wanted to go home to finish your drawing." My mother said concerned.
"Yeah, but I made time for these guys over here." I smiled. I really loved them all and to be honest I missed being with them too.
"Well, that's great, baby girl. I guess you all want the tupical. Hot chocolate for Maya, starberry shake for Riley, coffie for Lucas and banana shake for Farkle?"
"Yep" Farkle answered and my mum left the table.
"So Maya, why's the drawing?" Lucas asked trying to make a talk.
"I will show it in the next exhibition."
"Really? That's amazing." My best friend quickly answered really excited about me.
"I've decided to participate in more things like this. But I'm kind of nerveous whether pople will like it or not."
"Are you kidding me? Maya, you're a fantastic artist. Everyone will love your work!" Riley said and looked very happy for me.
"Aww, thanks." I said it casually but inside I was melting.
Our orders came and we started drinking.
"What will the drawing be about?" Farkle asked.
"I still don't know. I haven't had an idea yet."
"Whatever it is it's gonna be great." The browned eyed girl said.
Could she be any cuter? "Go away butterflies, go away" I thought.
"We can help you decide." Ranger Rick suggested.
"Yeah, I can draw a moral compass." I teased him.
"That sounds good." Man, he was tough.
"I'll break you" I knew I will someday.
"It's been four years. Don't you think it's time to give up?"
"In your dreams" I said giggling.
I looked at Riley who was observing us both. I wondered what what going on in her beautiful head.

After an hour of talking and laughing we finally decided to go. I stayed a little longer to talk about something with my mum.

When I went out I saw Riley and Lucas. Their lips were just now moving away from each other and I heard them whispering "I love you". It hurt so freaking bad. What hurt even more was that Riley said it first. I wanted to be mad at them but I couldn't. They had the total right to do it. They were boyfriend and girlfriend and I was no one in their relationship. But yet it hurt so much.

I looked away. When Lucas left, Riley turned around and saw me.
"Peaches." She smiled.
I faked a smile as an aswered but didn't look at her. I know she hated it when someone wasn't looking at her while they were talking but I just coundn't.
"Is there something wrong?" My best friend noticed. Why did she has to know me so well?
"Yeah, I just don't feel good."
"That's what you said and yesterday and the previous day. I'm starting to worry about you." She said concerned.
"No need. I am okay, I always am."
"If you say so. Do you need a walk home?" Riley asked.
"No, don't worry about me."
"Are you sure? I can come with-"
"I said NO!" My voice raised.
Riley looked down and I could see that she was hurt. God, the last thing I wanted was to hurt that little innocent heart of hers.
"I'm sorry. I appreciate your will to help but I'm fine. I really am."

I kept repeating that to myself.
I am fine.
I am fine.
I am fine.
