Maya's POV

Hope-
the feeling that what is wanted can be had or that events will turn out for the best

I've never really believed this definition. For me hope has aways been an illusion. A word, a feeling that makes us think that things will actually turn out the way we want them to when the truth is that doesn't always happen.
We can't control anything. Things happen like they are supposed to. We can't change that. But hope makes us feel like we do.
And when they doesn't we get dissapointed, sad or even mad. But it's our fault that we let hope get to us.

I let her once and it didn't end up well. I thought I actually had a chance. That maybe in the future me and her... I don't know, that we could be more than... something stronger than friends. And then I got dissapointed. Of course...

I was in my room drawing. It was one of my favourite things to do when I was alone. The drawing wasn't something special. I was just splashing pait all over the paper. I liked trying new things.

When I was finished I checked my phone and saw that I had a message from Riley.

R: Hey, you wanna come to a dinner at home tonight?
Me: Sounds good.
R: Great, I'll see you later xx
Me: See you :)
R: By the way how are you? Yesterday you seemed kind of pissed...
Me: Yeah, I am okay now.
R: I'm glad.

After that I started preparing. I put on a blue shirt with a devil on it, denim jeans and to finish my favourite leather jacket.

When I got there I rang the bell.
"It's Maya, weirdos."

I enterted their apartament.
"Hey" I said with a smile.
"Hey, Maya" everyone greeted me.
Mrs. Matthews gave me a side hug.
"How are you Maya, I haven't seen you in a while?"
"I am good. How are you?"
"I'm fine. A little tired but fine" She said as we were walking to the table.
"A lot of work, I guess?" I was now sitting on my place.
"Yep." Mrs. Matthews nodded.

I turned around to see Riley. She rapped her arms around me and gave me a tight hug. Now that I got 'maybe something' for her this kind of contact was harder for me. After like a minute she let me.
"Are you doing okay?" My best friend asked quietly.
"Yeah, you have nothing to worry about."

I looked at Mr. Matthews who was enjoying his mash potatoes and then Auggie who propably caught my eyes staring because he waved. I waved too.

"Maya, you're the only one that hasn't started eating. Are you not hungry?" Mrs. Matthews noticed and asked concerned.
"No, it's not that Mrs. Matthews." I said and put some spaghetti in my plate.
"Does Kattie know you're here?" Mr. Matthews finaly said something.
"Yeah, I called her while I was on my way to here."
"Good. We don't want her to be worried."

When we all finished our dinners me and Riley helped with the dishes.
"When is the exhibition?" Riley broke the silence.
"Next week."
"Great, we can come if you want." She offered.
"I want you to come but I don't wanna bother the rest of your family."
"What are you talking about?" I heard Mr. Matthews from the back. "Of course we'll come. You are part of our family." He continued.
That last part got me smiling so hard.
"Thank you, guys. But I'm probably gonna embarrass myself. I haven't even started with the drawing."
"Maya, stop with this nonsense!" Riley looked at me. "As I said yesterday you're an amazing artist. Anything you do will be worth going to see. Even if it is just a black board with nothing on it. You should believe in yourself more!"

What was that thing I was thinking about earlier? Hope? Well, yeah Riley Freaking Matthews should stop giving me.

"Thank you, Rileys. Means a lot."
She smirked innocently (if that was possible) as she was washing the dishes.

I stared at her for a minute.
The long brown shining hair. Her eyes making you feel like you can do anything, that you're safe.

That's how I felt with Riley- safe. I was in home with her. She was my home. Sometimes I wondered if I was hers...

Then her nose. It was so cute. And last but not least her lips. They were soft pink and looked so perfect. They probably felt perfectly...

After that I shook my head. I went back to reality. I didn't like reality. I looked around to see if anyone noticed my "felt like a lot more than 1 minute" staring and it seemed like they didn't.

When we finished Riley and Mr. Matthews walked me home. I said that I can go alone but they didn't let me. Riley didn't let me.
"Goodnight" She said as we hugged for goodbye.
"Goodnight" I answered and watched Riley and Mr. Matthews become smaller and smaller.

When I got home I found mum on the counch in her pjmas. She was waiting for me to come home.
"Hi, mum."
"Hey, honey." She hugged me.
"Were you waiting for me?" I asked.
"Of course I was. I can't go to bed without making sure my daugther is home safe."
"Well, I'm here you can go to bed now. You look really tired."
"I am. There was a lot of work today. Did you have fun at the Matthews?"
"Yeah, it was very nice."
"Good, now I'm going to sleep." She kissed my forehead.
"Sweet dreams." I said as she was walking to her room.

Riley.
I couldn't stop thinking about her. Everything about her was perfect. I could't name one thing that I didn't like in her. All I was thinking about was her. There was all these new feelings that I couldn't explain to mesylf...

I was falling for my best friend
