"So you fought three hydras on the spot, by yourself?" Percy tried not to sound impressed, raising his eyebrows at Jason, who sat in the passenger seat beside him.

"Aphrodite told me there would be one," Jason muttered. "I was prepared to fight one."

Annabeth and I laughed. We're finally on our way to the fair, after that Chiron decided that Percy's well enough. It's been three days.

"I guess you just have skill," Percy joked.

"Please, he got lucky," Annabeth scoffed. I elbowed her playfully.

"Hold up, don't go undermining his accomplishments now," I said. "Not after he saved your boyfriend's butt."

"She's right," Percy agreed begrudgingly. "Hey, what was the ingredient you got anyway?" He asked curiously.

"A flower," Jason humphed. "I fought three hydras to get a flower." Percy, Annabeth, and I burst out laughing. I hadn't even bothered to ask what the ingredient was, I was so relieved that Jason wasn't dead and that Percy wouldn't be soon to wonder.

"Was it at least a magical flower?" I asked, stifling my giggles.

"I don't even know," Jason shrugged.

"You're never gonna live that down, you know," Percy informed him.

"Would you rather me have not gotten the flower and kept my pride?" Jason retorted. Percy considered.

"If it was between my pride and your life, I honestly can't say what I would have done," Percy shrugged. Jason rolled his eyes.

"I'll keep that in mind next time you need saving," he promised. "See what happens then."

"Boys," Annabeth scolded. "Stop arguing, you missed the exit!" She studied the map for a second before pointing frantically. "Turn here, turn here!" Percy did an abrupt U-turn, making us all slam into the doors.

"I'm driving on the way back," I announced, rubbing my shoulder.

"Why can't I drive?" Jason complained.

"Because you are a child." I didn't skip a beat. "And also, you nearly got a ticket last time. The car isn't Tempest, there's a speed limit."

"I can drive perfectly fine under the speed limit," he shot back, knowing there was no way he would win this but trying for some unknown reason anyway.

"Really, you're sticking with that?" It was less of a question and more of a challenge.

"Maybe Annabeth should drive?" He changed his mind, but didn't give up completely.

"We need Annabeth to be navigator," I dismissed. "Speaking of which, I'm pretty sure you're about to turn the wrong way, Percy." He cringed, switching lanes last minute and causing someone to honk. Percy rolled down the window.

"Sorry!" He yelled. The guy glared at him.

"What's your problem?" The driver asked Percy. There were four boys in the car. They were wearing backwards hats and their arms were adorned with tattoos.

"You're my problem," I reply for him icily. They looked at me as if noticing for the first time that other people were in the car. "Did your hats not come with instructions or what?" Annabeth snickered.

"Hey, you girls want to join us? I bet you'd have a lot more fun," the passenger winked. I grimaced.

"I seriously hope no girl is tricked into marrying you," Annabeth muttered darkly through her glare.

"Light's green, go before Annabeth and Piper kill them!" Jason exclaimed. Percy floored the gas pedal and sped away before Annabeth or I could get our hands on them. Or rather, wrapped around their necks. Next time we kill monsters I have a feeling I know who we'll be imagining.

"Look, we're here!" Percy said, attempting to sound cheerful. I stopped glowering, immediately seeing the Ferris Wheel and smelling kettle corn. I grinned at Annabeth.

"This is going to be so fun!" She squealed.

"I think you just jinxed it," Percy groaned. "Five telkhines at your three." I turned to the right. Sure enough, the ugly things were standing right next to a game booth.

"Brunette, grey shirt, next to the cotton candy," Jason said suddenly. "She can see them." I glanced over. The girl looked about fifteen and wore a grey shirt and dark jeans. She looked panicked and was trying to get someone to listen, but no one paid attention.

"Great," I sighed. "So much for a break."

As if on cue, all five of the telkhines snapped their heads toward us at the same time.

"Shoot," Annabeth whispered, reaching for her dagger. Percy slid his pen out, and Jason twirled the gold coin in his fingers. I unsheathed Katoptris, glancing to either side of me at Annabeth and Jason.

"Ready?" Percy asked. We all knew our strategy. Having fought together many times before, it was practically second nature. We could've done it in our sleep.

We smiled at each other.

"Let's do it."

Telkhines, you have no idea what you're up against.
