also terrible author alert I forgot what tense I'm writing in so I had to go back and look at my other chapters O.o

"I'm going home to see my family," Jason says smoothly. I would be concerned at his faultless expression as he says the lie, except that I almost cringe at his slip-up. I know Annabeth would notice it too, and she did, narrowing her eyes at him suspiciously.
"You don't have family," she says. He doesn't even falter.
"I'm going to Camp Jupiter," he explains immediately. "I told you all when I decided to stay that I'd be visiting sometime soon." Annabeth nods slowly.
"And why did you tell me?" She asks coldly.
"So you wouldn't get suspicious," I jump in. "You just need to relax, and try not to worry as much as possible," I continue, feeling only slightly guilty at the charmspeak I slipped into my words. She nods again, quickly.
"Be safe," she says softly, looking slightly confused after she uttered the words.
"Don't worry about me," Jason says with a strained smile. "I'll be just fine."

"You're sure you know where you're going?" I ask Jason for the umpteenth time. "Do you have enough food and water? It won't take long, right? And you won't get lost?" He laughs and tugs at my hair.
"I'll be okay, thank you mother," he teases. I roll my eyes. "Seriously, just help Annabeth out, okay? You don't need to worry about me. She's the one who needs support right now. Especially when the other campers realize." His ice-blue eyes look sad and determined at the same time. "I've got to hurry. Stay safe, Pipes." He smiles slightly down at me before sliding into the cab.
As it drives away, taking Percy's last hope of health with it, I make my way back up Half-Blood Hill.
And I wonder why prophecies can't just be straight with you.
