Stanley (although he was still going by Stanford at the time) found his great-nephew crying in the bathroom.

Dipper was curled up between the wall and the sink, tears streaming out of his eyes. He wasn't wearing a shirt, and there was something silver wrapped around his upper torso.

He looked up when Stan walked in.

"What?" He sniffed.

Stan crouched down in front of him. "Kid, are you okay?"

Dipper shrugged weakly. "I don't know."

"Well, what's all this about?" He gestured towards the silver blue stuff.

"Duct tape."

"Well, why is it on you? That doesn't seem very safe," Stan frowned.

"I-I just w-wanted to be a boy." Dipper rubbed his eyes.

Stan's legs started to get tired from crouching, so he sat down. "What do you mean?"

"I was b-born a g-girl," Dipper tried to explain, hiccuping. "Like M-Mabel. But I wasn't, not really. So I tried to tell m-mom and d-dad, and they s-said that I was j-just p-pretending. T-they sent us up h-here to st-stay with you so th-that I w-would r-realize th-that I was m-making a m-mistake. Th-that's why I d-don't ch-change my clothes v-very often; th-there are o-only t-two boy ones th-that I h-have."

"Oh, kid," Stan sighed. He gave his great-nephew an awkward hug. Affection was still something that he was working on. "Mabel knows, of course."

"Y-yeah. She's a great s-sister."

"Why the duct tape? That's not healthy, kid."

"I-it's all th-that I c-could find."

"Why didn't you just ask your sister to make a binder for you?"

Dipper curled up a little bit. "I-I'm too scared."

"Mabel's your sister, kid. She won't bite."

The twelve-year-old traced a random design on the cold tile floor. "I kn-know. But I d-don't want m-mom and dad to g-get mad at h-her."

"They're your parents, kid. They should accept you no matter what. Now come on; lets get that duct tape off and get you cleaned up."

Dipper gave him a small smile. "Th-thanks, grunkle Stan."
