The leaves on the forest floor crunched underneath my paws as I carried Rose through the woods, leaping over fallen trees and dodging the ones that were still standing. I began to slow down to a walk as we neared the edge of the backyard of Rose's house, the building now looking dark and dreary. Maybe Tyler's waiting in that house for us to go in, then he'll strike.
Feeling Rose climb off my back, I changed back into my human form, placing my hands on my hips and looking at her house. I felt a gaze on my bare upper body. I looked to Rose, seeing her looking at my abs. I know it's cocky, but it was true.
"Like what you see, Rose?" I questioned her, smirking a little as a light, pink hue glowed on her cheeks. "Come on, love. Why so I always catch you staring at me?"
"I can't help it," she muttered, gently kicking the leaves underneath her booties. "It's just that you're really attractive. It's kind of hard not to look at you."
I chuckled at her as I walked over to her, the pink hue on her cheeks deepening as I did so. I grabbed her hands, interlocking our fingers, pressing a gentle kiss to her forehead. I heard her laugh a little, putting her face into my bare chest.
"You're so cute when you blush," I said, enveloping her body with my strong arms. I rested my cheek on the top of her head as I heard her answer.
"It's because you're the one who always causes them," I heard her say, her voice slightly muffled by my skin.
I smiled softly, lifting my head and placing a gentle kiss on her hair. I inhaled her scent, grinning as I smelled the scent of peppermint that lingered wherever she went. It was a delightful smell.
"I'm gonna quickly race back to the cabin and grab a shirt, okay?" I told her, pulling away to see her face. She solemnly nodded, a slight look of fear resting upon her face. I pressed a kiss to her forehead. "Don't worry. I'll be back before you know it."
I leaned down, pressing a swift kiss to her lips, lingering there for a few seconds. I pulled away, looking at her angelic features, and raced back with my vampire speed. I entered the cabin and ran up to the room, quickly tossing on a shirt and a sweatshirt. Then I ran back.
When I got back to the place where I left Rose, I felt an immediate panic rise up in my chest, seeing that she wasn't around. I cursed to myself before calling out her name, looking everywhere around the area.
"Rose?" I called out to her, looking around. "Where are you, my love?"
Then a thought popped into my head. Look up.
I tilted my head all the way back, seeing her up on a thick, strong tree branch with her legs dangling in the air. A sigh of relief left my mouth, a smile appearing afterward.
"I thought Tyler took you," I gently told her, looking up into her beautiful, green eyes.
"He didn't," she responded, looking down at my tall figure with a mischievous glint in her eyes. "I thought I should freak you out a bit, see your reaction. I think it worked."
"It did work." She giggled as she climbed down the tree, landing in front of me on her feet. I quickly brought her into my arms, holding her close. "Don't ever do that again."
I felt her smile against my chest. "Not making any promises."
I chuckled quietly, releasing her from the secure hug I was giving her. I put my hand in hers, then stepped out onto the backyard. We carefully began moving across it, dashing to the side of the house about halfway. We walked alongside the house until we reached the driveway. Rose gasped, my eyes widening as we saw a brand-new, white Mercedes-Benz C300 sitting there on the concrete. The sunshine made it look shiny. It was a nice car, if I do say so myself.
