In Ms. Fairchild's class Lexy and Junior look around for Grant because he never misses school, even when he's sick. "Lexy?" Ms. Fairchild says. "Here!" She calls back out. "Grant? I don't know why I'm asking he's here." Ms. Fairchilds says with a chuckle. "He's actually not here." Devon says. "What?" The whole class says. "I guess he doesn't feel well." Devon says again. "Well, get in groups of 5, when Grant comes back he'll join you guys." Ms. Fairchild says. They get into groups and start working. "We should check in on him." Junior says. "Ok sure. After school?" Jake asks and everyone nods.
After school hits and they all walk to Grants house. Out of their neighborhood into a neighborhood of mansions and humongous yards and lavish apartments. "Here." Lexy says and they knock. Charlotte answers and scowls at seeing her and Junior. "Hi Jake and Devon. Junior and Lexy." She says. "Hi, Mrs. Collins. Can we check in on Grant, he never misses school." Devon says. "Sure! Come on in." Charlotte says.
They walk into Grant's room and sees him lying in bed. "Grant?" Devon says and Jake turns on his light and his room is a mess. The broken lamp is still on the floor and clothes are everywhere. "Grant, your room is a mess." Lexy says. "I don't care." He says. "Well where were you? We missed ya'." Junior says sympathetically.
"I stayed here. You wanted me to come so you and Lexy could rub your relationship in my face?" Grant asks. As Junior is about to respond a few books and create a loud sound which causes everyone to look at Jake.
"Jake, you okay?" Devon asks. Jake leaves the room and sits on the stairs. "What's going on?" Devon asks. "Did I look like him?" Jake asks with tears in his eyes. "Jake." "Did I?" Jake begs an answer. "I see a little bit of you in him. The messy room, something being broken, lights off, laying away from the door, bags under eyes, and messy hair." Devon says. "Shit. I'm sorry for putting you guys through that." He whispers. "Oh baby." Devon says sitting beside him and kissing him.
"I went to doctor this past weekend about my scars. Y'know? Asking if they would heal, he said they're permanent." Jake says. "I have to learn on how to wear short sleeve shirts. It's fine when it's cold, but it's starting to get hot at night and at day at some points." Jake says. "I'll help you, you'll start small. No jacket at home or around just us or our friends. They'll support you, Jake. K?" Devon asks making sure he'a okay. "Yeah, thanks. Let's go in." Jake says and they walk in. Before walking in Jake takes off his jacket and reveals his scars up to his shoulder and down to his wrist.
"Grant, are you coming tomorrow. It's Friday, you love science tests." Devon says. "So, Grant. Emmy Laurel got a new haircut it's boxy, she looks more like a nerd." Jake says. "What're you doing?" Lexy whispers. "He's holding up a convo. I used to do it with Jake." Junior whispers back. "Yeah, she looks stupid, she had this Lemon8 inspo pic. It obviously didn't work out." Junior says.
They talk for almost 2 hours, but the conversation gets cut short when they have to walk home.
"So, Jake. I noticed you took off your jacket." Junior says. "Yeah, they're never gonna go away, so I need to get used to not wearing one or long sleeve." Jake says. "Proud of ya." Lexy says nudging his ribs softly.
