Elliot
It was Monday morning when I woke up. I wasn't going to school today because I prioritized my therapy session. With the way things have been going with me and Kyran, I was not going to delay seeing Ms. Baird. Me and Kyran's friendship is starting to take a turn. We cuddle, hold hands, and he flirts with me. Yes, I know that can be the norm in friendships, but that's not normal for us. Then, on top of that, my outrageous dreams about kissing him were getting out of hand.
Trinity was worried about me per usual, but I guess I understand considering I just randomly scheduled a therapy appointment. I usually don't schedule one unless something bad is going on. I wasn't going to tell her that everything was fine because she wouldn't believe me anyways, and I certainly wasn't going to tell her about my conflicting feelings towards Kyran.
As we drove to my therapist's office, I could tell Trinity was worried. I picked up on the things she does when she's thinking about what could be going on with me. At red lights, she peels the polish off her nails, and while driving, her index finger taps on the wheel. I felt bad about always making her scared.
Ever since she took custody of me, she always watched me carefully. To be honest, I didn't think she'd pick up on the fact that I wasn't okay because, to me, I acted normal. However, she saw things differently and didn't hesitate to get me help. Sometimes I wonder how much she actually knows about me. It's probably more than I think it is.
Arriving at the office, Trinity walked me inside. She greeted Ms. Baird before leaving. I hoped she'd be okay driving by herself, especially since I could tell she was still anxious. We walked into the room, and I sat on the soft couch while Ms. Baird sat in her chair.
"I'm proud of you."
"For what?" I asked.
"Finally scheduling an appointment."
"Yeah," I chuckled lightly. "I needed to."
"What's been going on?"
"Uh, well, the main reason I scheduled it is because I've been having weird dreams."
"Nightmares again?"
"Sort of? um..." I paused. "I've been dreaming about a friend."
"And what happens in the dream?"
"I either kiss him or he kisses me," I answered. "And it's starting to fuck with me because I don't know what to feel or if I want to feel anything."
"Dreams like that can be normal, Elliot."
"Does that mean...I like him, though?"
"Describe to me how you feel when you're around him."
"Depending on the day, annoyed."
"Does he make you happy?"
"I guess so."
"What else?" she asked.
"My stomach feels like it's in knots when I'm around him. Then, sometimes all I can think about is him, and on top of that..." I trailed off. "I think I want to kiss him."
"Elliot," she said softly.
"Oh god, please don't tell me..."
"Yes, I believe you have a crush on this boy."
"But I've had a crush before. Remember the boy from the library?" I asked. "I didn't feel this way with him."
"Because Elliot, that wasn't a crush. I think you just found him attractive, and there's a big difference between that and actually having a crush."
