1 Week Later
Zara sat on her bed, her fingers trembling as she adjusted her veil. The small room felt heavier than ever, the air thick with silence. She kept her gaze fixed on the floor, her thoughts swirling. Suddenly, the door swung open, and Rose stormed in.
“Zara!” Rose’s voice broke the silence, her tone sharp and filled with hurt. “How could you just vanish like that? Not a word, not even a hint! Do you know how worried I’ve been?”
Zara glanced up, biting her lip under her veil. She tried to speak, but the lump in her throat made it impossible.
“Say something!” Rose demanded, her blue eyes glistening with unshed tears. “You’re my best friend, Zara. Do you think it’s fair to leave me in the dark?”
Zara’s voice finally broke through, soft and shaky. “Rose, I… I didn’t mean to hurt you. I just… needed time.”
“Time?” Rose said, crossing her arms. “Time for what, Zara? To hide from everyone? From me? Or… was it from him?”
Zara froze, her heart skipping a beat at the mention of him. She didn’t need Rose to say his name—Jungkook’s image immediately flooded her mind. The way he had stood before her a week ago, desperate and vulnerable, haunted her.
Rose’s gaze softened as she sat beside Zara. “You don’t have to say anything. I know it’s about him. But Zara, you’ve been a wreck since he disappeared. You can’t keep this bottled up.”
Zara’s voice was barely a whisper. “Rose, it’s complicated. He came here, he saw everything… and then he left. I don’t even know where he is. Maybe he realized… maybe he understood that we’re too different.”
Rose placed a comforting hand on Zara’s shoulder. “Too different? Zara, differences don’t mean you don’t belong together. You told me once how he looked at you—like you were the only one in the room. You told me how he listened, how he cared. Do you really think he’d walk away so easily?”
Zara’s eyes filled with tears. “But Rose… he’s gone. He didn’t say anything after that day. And I don’t blame him. I’ve made it clear that this can’t work.”
Rose sighed, leaning back against the wall. “And yet, here you are, thinking about him every second. Zara, love isn’t about guarantees. It’s about faith, about taking a chance even when everything feels uncertain.”
Zara looked down, her hands clutching the fabric of her dress. “But he’s not like us, Rose. He doesn’t believe in Allah. He doesn’t have the same faith that I do. How can I build something with someone who doesn’t share that foundation?”
Rose gave her a thoughtful look. “Zara, faith can grow. People can change. You’ve told me how much he respects you, how much he’s willing to listen and learn. Maybe he just needs time to find his own path.”
Zara shook her head, tears slipping down her cheeks. “And what if he doesn’t? What if I lose everything for someone who will never understand me?”
Rose reached out, wiping a tear from Zara’s cheek. “Zara, life isn’t about having all the answers. It’s about trusting your heart and trusting Allah’s plan. If Jungkook is meant to be in your life, nothing can take him away. But you need to stop running and face whatever it is you’re feeling.”
Zara hesitated, her mind racing with thoughts of Jungkook. The way he had looked at her, the pain in his eyes, the desperation in his voice—it all came flooding back.
“Do you really think… he’ll come back?” Zara asked, her voice barely audible.
Rose smiled softly. “If he loves you as much as you think he does, Zara, he will. But maybe, just maybe, you need to meet him halfway but What is this nonsense I’m hearing? You’re marrying someone your father chose for you?”
