Hey guys! This is my new story...Please enjoy! (:

I fixed up to look what I thought was nice for my first day of school, at my new high school. I had always been an outcast at my old school, everyone knew me, but I was known as the ‘the weird girl’.  Now was my new chance to make friends.  My style is what turns people off, I don’t like to match, or wear the same thing more than once. I’ve always been like this, it wasn’t weird to me, but it sure was to other people.  But this new high school was a new beginning.

My mother died when I was only seven, leaving me alone with my father.  My father and I used to be close, like really close.  Once my mother died, we drifted apart; we realized we were two different people.  My father never really comments on my style or my way of doing things, he kind of stays out of the way. I usually have to do things for myself, because he’s so busy with his work. I get used to being alone. I’m alone at school, at home, and every other minute of the day.

I dressed differently to express myself; my mother always told me that was what I was supposed to do. I could express myself anyway possible.  Today, I decided I’d wear my hair up, and wear a colorful outfit.  Usually a person would be scared about starting a new school, but I wasn’t. I knew how it would end up, which is me being alone, so I might as well have fun while I can.  Every girl that I walked past who saw how I dressed whispered to their friends about how weird I looked.  Every guy I past never thought twice about me, if they even looked up.  So, I had never had a boyfriend, and secretly I wanted one, but I didn’t show it on the outside.

“Kaylee! You’re going to be late for school! Get down here!” My father called from downstairs.

“I’m coming, Dad!” I said, putting the last clip in my hair. “Geez, is he ever patient?” I said to myself.

I walked outside to my father’s car, and sat in the front seat and waited for him to rush out with his breakfast in hand, and his coffee mug.  Sure enough, two minutes later he came out of the house all dressed for work, with a hot pocket in his hand and his coffee mug that said ‘World’s Best Dad’.

“Are you sure you want to wear that on your first day?” He said, referring to my outfit.

“Yes.” I said, without hesitation.

“Okay.” He said, starting the car. We rode the rest of the way in silence.

About ten minutes later we reached my high school, where I got out of the car and slowly walked in, starting to get nervous.  I pushed one of the double doors open, revealing many different teenagers, freshman, sophomores, juniors, and seniors.  Tall jockeys, short cheerleaders, blonde girls, muscular guys.  I stood out, even with all the different array of people.  I looked down at my shoes as I kept walking forward.  I watched as one of the blonde girls, probably a cheerleader, leaned over and said something to one of her girlfriends, then they giggled. I ignored it and pretended they weren’t there; I had gotten good at that over the years.  I looked down at the map that my father had received from the principal, and I saw that my first class was Math in room 332.  For the rest of the walk, I kept my head down, counting the tiles that I walked on.  Once I counted seventy-three tiles, I reached the room where I was going.

I walked in and found a seat towards the middle of the room, hoping not to be noticed.  Once the bell rang, everyone found their seats in the room and the teacher stood up in front of the class.

“Oh, well it seems we have a new student! Why don’t you come up and introduce yourself.” The teacher told me.

Awkwardly, I got up and made my way towards the front of the room. I stood there for a moment, looking at the back wall, then at the teacher.  I rocked on my heels a few times before the teacher finally said,

“What’s your name?”

“Oh, my name is Kaylee McCoy.” I said quietly.

“Nice to have you in my class, Kaylee, I’m Mr. Everett, your math teacher.” Mr. Everett told me. I nodded.

Just then, a blonde girl raised her hand, and when no one called on her to speak she said, “Um, did your closet throw up on you?” She said in a high, ditsy voice.

“Skylar! That was uncalled for and rude.” Mr. Everett said, as the girl, Skylar high-fived the girl next to her.

With that, I walked back to my seat and slouched down.  It was only the first day, and I had no idea if I could survive another minute.  For the rest of class, Mr. Everett went on and on about math, but it never really made since to me.  After another forty minutes, the bell rang for the next period.  I got up quickly, trying to avoid any other contact with anyone else, but the same girl, Skylar stopped me again.

“Hey, Kylie,” She started.

“It’s Kaylee…” I corrected her.

“Oh, right, Kaylee. I was wondering if maybe I could borrow your outfit sometime. It’s really cute!” Skylar said, starting to sound nice.

As the gullible person I am, I said, “Oh really?”

“No!” Skylar said and then laughed out loud, high fiving the same girl as before.

Just then, out of nowhere a boy appeared.  He was in the math class that I was in, but I didn’t pay much attention to him.  He had dark brown hair, and green eyes.  He looked muscular and had a pretty cute style.

“Knock it off, Skylar.” He told her as he approached us.

“Oh but baby, why are you defending this freak?” Skylar asked in a flirty tone as she put her arm around this guy’s waist.

“You’re being mean.” He told her, pulling her closer.

“Maybe you need to punish me.” She said, kissing him real quickly.

He only let out a small laugh.

“Well, I’ve got to get to my next class. I’ll talk to you later.” She said as she kissed his cheek and rubbed his arm.

As I started to walk away, he stopped me,

“Hey, don’t listen to Skylar. She can be mean.” He told me in a sweet tone.

“Yeah, it didn’t get to me too bad.” I said, forcing a small smile.

“She’s nice once you get to know her.” He told me, inching closer.

“I can tell you know her well…” I said to myself more than to him.

“Yeah…” He said, trailing off, “I’m Nicholas, by the way.”

“Kaylee.” I said my name.

“Nice to meet you, Kaylee. I hope to see you around more.” Nicholas said before turning around.

“Yeah.” I said, as he walked away.  I hugged my books close to my chest; maybe this school wouldn’t be so bad after all.
