Raymond

After a weekend of fucking and Eve teaching me how to cook, I expected relatively smooth sailing. Suffice to say that is not the case. Having Eve call me, choking back tears, and telling me a stranger has been sending her gifts she assumed was from me for weeks who is now threatening her damn near gave me an aneurism. All I knew was that I had to get to her as soon as possible in case anything happened. The entire walk to the clinic I kept seeing Jerry standing over me with the promise of death in his cold icy gaze. If I didn't have to concentrate so hard to not run into anything, I probably would've driven myself crazy.

Red hot anger is still coiling in my guts while Eve drives us towards her parents' house. I want to tear somebody apart, but we still don't know who Eve's stalker is so I'm left stewing in silence. Eve's been uncharacteristically silent the entire time. I'm so used to her constant chattering now that her being quiet is rather unnerving.

The car soon rumbles to a stop and there's a jingling as Eve pulls her keys from the ignition. I hear a deep sigh before I feel her head drop onto my shoulder, her curly hair tickling my cheek. Slowly, I raise my opposite hand and run it down her hair to get it out of my face.

"Can we just go home and pretend none of this is happening?" Eve asks. "I don't want to deal with it."

"We have to. If we don't find him soon so I can rip out his intestines through his mouth, I'll probably go crazy."

She groans and I feel her head lift off my shoulder. "Fine."

Cold air invades the warm car as I open my door and unfold my cane. Frankie won't be allowed to complain about me not leaving the house for the next five years. Two new places in one day is more than I've done since I lost my sight. I don't want any more of it for the rest of my life if I can help it. At least I've already met her brothers, otherwise I wouldn't be ashamed to tuck tail and run. Although they don't exactly know that we've finalized the bond. The only one that does is Eve's mother and we won't exactly be able to hide it.

Before the front door is even opened, I can hear loud voices inside, clamoring over one another to be heard. When the door opens, I'm hit with a mixture of so many scents and so many sounds, that even with one sense gone, it's overwhelming. As my hand tightens over my cane, Eve's soft fingers wrap around my free hand and my chest loosens a little. I can at least trust Eve not to let me run into any walls or furniture and make a fool of myself.

Just as the door closes behind us, there's quick pounding footsteps in our direction. Suddenly, Eve's hand is almost ripped from mine, but she grips on tighter. A new scent, light and feminine that shares a familiarity with Eve's, at least before she started to smell more like me. The woman, who I assume is Eve's mother, is worrying over Eve and likely embracing her from the continuous tugging on Eve's arm.

"Oh, my baby. I've been so worried about you," The woman sniffles.

"It's okay, Mom. Ray came and picked me up from work to make sure I was safe."

I can feel two pairs of eyes on me, making me incredibly uncomfortable. Feeling eyes on you without knowing why or what they're feeling is very strange. How am I supposed to know if Eve's mom doesn't hate my fucking guts?

"Oh, is this Ray? I haven't seen him since he and his brothers were in elementary school with the twins. He was always a tall one which hasn't changed, I see."

"Hello, Mrs. Scott," I greet, trying my utmost to be polite. "It's good to, uh, see you?" Oh god, why am I so fucking terrible at this? I haven't been polite to anyone possibly ever in my life. Not even Eve and I like her. Women have a strange ability to get you to do things you'd rather scoop your fucking eyeballs out than do.
