Crystal Splezter, The 3rd Chapter

New Life

Plot: A checkup leads to a bonding between friends and revelations for Desti.

(June 27th - 2024)

Darkness fell over the mushroom kingdom, stars glistening in the sky like diamonds that blanketed the night sky.

It was on this day that in Desti's house, things were finally settling down as Desti put Lily to bed.

The girl was already exhausted from helping fix the house up, now she was paying the price. Her eyes were drooping shut and her could barely lift a finger once she touched her bed.

As she lied there, the covers were pulled up as Desti fitted them over her shoulders before bending to brush some hair away from her forehead, kissing her just above one of her eyes and stroking her cheek.

Desti: Night Lilybug...

Lily: Mmm...night sis...

Lily smiled as she finally tuckered out, falling asleep in seconds with a smile. Desti smiled in return and stayed there a moment, unable to deny just how utterly precious she was...

Desti hadn't felt this way in a long time...the feeling of being able to relax. For as long as she could remember, she was lucky to get a full nights sleep, unable to forget about Lily, constantly upset for giving her away, for not knowing where she was.

Now, seeing her here in bed, happy, healthy and relaxed...it was a message from the universe that she could finally breathe. Her baby sister was home where she belonged, where she should've been from day 1.

Finally, Desti left the room and went down to the living room and grabbed a bowl of something to snack on. For some reason, her body had a craving for guacamole and nachos despite having already eaten dinner.

So there she was, settled on the couch stuffing her face with good food, a hand resting on her stomach while watched Tv. There was nothing good on nowadays, so she mainly just flipped through channels at her leisure.

Until...

(Knock, Knock, Knock)

Her head perked up as she heard a sound at the door. Putting the bowl aside, she moved to the door and use the eye-hole to check through. At first, she assumed it was a "ring the doorbell and run" prank, but then she saw a blue hat just in view.

Curious why he was here, she opened the door and was pleasantly surprised to find he was here with a small wrapped present.

Smg4: Hey Desti, there's the mom to be!

Desti blushed furiously and crossed her arms. It was awkward enough that her look at home made the pregnancy look more obvious, having discarded her jacket for her pink casual t-shirt and shorts. The small bump was almost painfully on display.

Desti: H-hey 4, what are you doing here?

Smg4: I was just coming back from playing bingo with Bob and thought I'd come check in on you! I brought this from a nearby store so you didn't think I was freeloading.

He handed her the present as she inspected it for a moment, before smiling as she placed it on the kitchen island and began to open it.

Desti: Oh, 4...I'm touched, honestly, but you know you're my friend, really didn't have to-

Her eyes froze as she looked in the box and reached in to pull out...

A single baby rattle shaped like a power star.

She looked at Smg4, who had a big goofy grin with 2 thumbs up.

Smg4: Eh? Eh? What do ya think?

(Bonk!)
