A/N: long and late so they cancel each other out... right? Also, the pic has nothing to do this anything, I just think it's funny.
"Everyone in positions?" Called over the comms from his place on the roof, looking down at the ballroom from the skylight.
"I'm in the Northwest corner of the room," Cass said, her voice quiet. "I have eyes on Cassandra."
"I have eyes on Mr. Wayne in the Southeast corner," Kon said.
"I am in the middle of the room, a few yards from Jason and Dick," Bart said, his voice cracking slightly as he tried to suppress a laugh at the second name.
Tim rolled his eyes. "Impulse, at least try to keep it professional."
Robin scoffed. "You're asking too much of him Red Robin."
Tim was about to defend his teammate when Bart chuckled quietly and said, "He isn't wrong."
Tim just ran a hand over his face. "Robin, report. Are you in position?"
"Tt- obviously," his younger brother said. "I have eyes on the front entrance. The security seems competent enough for now."
"Okay, check in every 15 minutes and stay vigilant. Anything suspicious needs to be reported immediately— if you have so much as a bad feeling about something, I want to know about it. Understood?"
They all replied with their agreements.
Tim knew that his team was more than capable of being on guard duty, but he couldn't help the anxiety in his chest. This mission was important, and not just because it was about the protection of his family. This was his chance to prove that his team was capable. They weren't founding members of the team, so the JL tended to underestimate them at every step.
"A car just pulled up out front," Damian said.
Tim's eyebrows furrowed. "The gala is already in full swing. Who is showing up this late?"
Damian was silent for a long moment and Tim considered leaving his position to go look for himself, but then the youngest's voice came through the comms once again.
"It's Selina Kyle," Damian said, no doubt rolling his eyes at the woman's appearance.
"That's Catwoman, right?" Kon asked. "Should we intercept her before-"
"Negative," Tim called, running a hand over his face. Of course Bruce would forget to tell them that she was coming. "She's a... friend of Mr. Wayne."
Bart seemed to attempt and hide a laugh with a cough. "A billionaire is friends with a cat burger? Talk about a symbiotic relationship."
"Just stick with your targets," Tim said before switching his comm channel to his family's. "Bruce, your girlfriend just got here."
The man, who was in the middle of taking a sip of champagne and talking to some other wealthy Gothamites, chocked on his sip. His eyes briefly darted up to the skylight and a small glare of warning, before he looked back to the others around him and putting back on his mask of charisma. He excused himself and began walking towards the entrance.
"She's not my girlfriend," Bruce muttered quietly under his breath.
Jason and Dick could be heard laughing at that, but none of them said anything.
Bruce saw as Selina entered the room, immediately offering her his arm before the duo made their way back into the gala.
Tim just let out a sigh and switched back to his team's comm channel.
