Ash was asleep, but his mind was awake. Lost in the past and in someone else's memories.

By now, he understood the feeling well. He looked down at his own hands, barely visible, his body nothing more than a ghostly presence. Around him, the relentless patter of rain against thick leaves filled the air, drowning out every other sound. He moved forward, weaving through the dense rainforest, his steps light but purposeful.

Ahead, a dim glow flickered through the trees. A makeshift tent stood in the clearing, its canvas damp from the rain, a single lamp casting weak light within. Inside, a figure lay still, wrapped in bandages, half-hidden beneath a heavy quilt.

Eiran.

His eyes fluttered open, hazy with pain. He turned his head, scanning his surroundings as if searching for something—or someone.

A blur of movement shot past Ash. Luke.

"There you are!" Luke's voice cracked with relief and panic. "Where the hell have you been? What happened to you?"

Eiran grimaced, pushing himself up with difficulty. "That's not important," he rasped. "Xenos ran away."

Ash barely had time to process those words before the scene shifted again.

Rain pounded against the earth as Eiran and Luke tore through the forest, their breaths ragged, their urgency palpable. The trees thinned, revealing the soft glow of firelight ahead.

A settlement.

Cautiously, they stepped inside. Villagers stood in tight clusters, their faces shadowed, their voices hushed. In the center of it all, atop a crude wooden pyre, was Xenos—her body bloodied, arms bound, tied to a crucifix.

Eiran's breath hitched. "What the hell is this?"

The crowd parted, and from within them emerged an old woman—the same one Ash had seen tending to Serena.

Ash's mind reeled. How? How was she still alive after all these years?

"She carries the blood of those who wronged us," the woman said, her voice as steady as stone. "This is justice."

Eiran's jaw clenched, rage simmering beneath his pain. "That's not for you to decide."

He didn't hesitate. Raising his staff, he willed the very air to shift—Xenos' limp body was wrenched free, flying toward him. He caught her before she could hit the ground, her weight light in his arms.

Her eyes fluttered open. "Why didn't you fight back?" he whispered.

A weak smile tugged at her lips, bitter and tired. "Because if I did, I would become what they already believe me to be—a monster in the eyes of Alessar."
