Chapter 5
I was walking aimlessly down the halls while third period was starting. Chris, unfortunately, did not have this class with me. He had tried to point me in the direction of the physics room, though. He looked unconvinced when I told him that I’d find it, but walked away anyhow. That Mia girl had left math early to go to the bathroom, and never came back. So I didn’t know anyone else to show me towards the right class. And here I was.
The hallways were so quiet, I’m sure you could’ve heard a pin drop from the other side of the school. It made me think of my old school. Compared to back there, this day had already been strange. People had actually paid attention in class, and weren’t smoking some concoction that probably wasn’t even half the drug they had paid for. And the hallways back home were never empty, because not even half the kids ever bothered showing up for class half the time. I can’t say I missed that place. I mean, first, half of anyone was too high to even hold a conversation with me. Plus the group that I used to call my friends was two-faced and vicious. I remember the first time I wondered why I ever liked them…
My friend Lisa tried hooking me up with this guy she knew. I never really talked to him before, so I told her to stop. She said that if I didn’t do this, or get a “cool” boyfriend soon, we couldn’t be friends. So, being the idiot I had proved myself to be too many times, I accepted to go on the date with the boy I’d never met. His name was Nick.
My eyes started tearing just at the thought of his name. It was his fault everyone had turned on me. Furiously wiping away the tears, I finally found the physics room. Perfect timing, I thought sarcastically. Well, good thing I was wearing waterproof mascara. Always look on the bright side, I reminded myself.
Taking a deep breath, I knocked on the door and waited for the teacher to let me in. Once he did, I raised my eyebrows at how young the teacher looked. Maybe he’d be cool. Or at least not a grumpy old guy.
“Who are you, and why are you late?” He asked, looking unimpressed as I walked in.
“Er, Arriana Smith. And, well, I sorta got lost. First day and all, you know?” I prayed to whoever was listening that he wouldn’t give me a detention. Well, until a snort caught my attention.
“Nice going,” said Belle. I groaned internally. I had class with this witch?!
“Thanks, sis!” I said to her with fake happiness. She glared as I smiled at her as innocently as I could manage.
“Maybe Belle can show you to all the rest of your classes then, since your sisters?” I turned to face the teacher. Was he serious? Disgust filled both my face and Belle’s as we gawked at him. So much for being cool!
“Uh, that won’t be necessary…” I laughed nervously as I racked my brain for an excuse.
“Yeah, totally not necessary!” Belle hastily agreed with me. Love you, too, sis.
“Hmm? And why is that?” The teacher glanced between the two of us expectantly. Oh god, he’s going to make her show me around. My life’s going to end, my life’s going to end, oh god. She’s going to murder me, I just know it.
“Because I was already assigned to show her around, sir,” said a voice in the back of the room. We turned to face whoever spoke, along with the rest of the class who watched with amused expressions.
The only face that was still looking my way was that of a stunningly attractive guy, so I assumed he was the one who spoke. Too bad he looked like an outcast, the way people reacted to him talking. He had long-ish black hair that fell just over his piercing grey eyes. And a lip piercing. Swoon. Oh, man, what am I doing?
