The Promises we Made

Chapter 2

*Jake's POV*

Cat went flat lined before i could finish. I saw before i started she couldn't hold on any longer.

One of the nurses took me gingerly by the hand and said "let us do our job. We will do the best we can but you might want to prepare yourself." No, i wouldn't take that. I couldn't. 

I left the room though, i couldn't bare the sight of Cat laying on a table that looked like where dead bodies lay on those crime shows. She wasn't dead. She couldn't be dead. She was all i had.  I missed my chance to tell her. I was in love with her. She was my everything. The only reason I didn't tell her about the school was because i didn't want her mixed in all this. But there was no going back now. She had signed.. Might of well had signed her own death certificate. It was death or possible death for her. At least i would be there for her this way.

Damion was passing through when he saw me. I looked down to find myself drenched in blood. Cat's blood. The reason i call her Cat is because its short for her name Katrina andher eyes just looked so cat-like.

Damion ran over to me and said "dude are you okay!? What happened" he said looking me up and down for injuries.

" I'm fine" well physically i was " but its Cat. It was her parents. I knew she never wanted me to find out but i had my suspicions. She always had bruises and she was never happy while at home. I walked in on them about to shoot her in the head,  having already been shot once and maybe even had a dish or two thrown at her." but i couldn't explain what else i saw. The bullet had stopped. Nothing was there to stop it. I had no explanation for it though. Maybe i was seeing things and her dad missed. Yeah, that was it.

" oh my god, is she going to be okay?" Damion, besides Cat, was my best friend and he knew i loved Cat.

" i don't know" i said. " it doesn't look good. She was flat lined" i chocked out. I knew i could but i refused to cry. it was like admiting defeat and around here, you don't do that.

I paced through the hall with Damion.  I don't know how much time passes but i wouldn't leave until i knew.

Damion suggested i go take a shower in my dorm room but i said "i cant" with such emotion and look that explained everything. Damion didn't suggest leaving again.

Every foot step brought back a new memory of Cat. Watching movies in the summer all night and fell asleep looking at the stars and moon.

" i wonder if it ends" she whispered. " what are you talking about?" i gave her a "are you crazy" look. "the universe"  she said looking at me with those eyes that i could spend all day staring at, "doesn't everything have an end? No one has seen one " she pondered.

I didn't have an answer for her strange question. Or going camping with her and my family, we camped near a lake.  It was a particularly warm day and the lake was so inviting. Cat was wearing a bikini, gold with nice gold hoops linking it together. She looked so hot, i was beyond words. She pivoted for me.

"what do you think? I just got it" she said. I just stared at her like a moron, taking a mental image to save. "um..." i stammered "you look great" what a smooth thing to say Jake.

She just laughed and ran into the water. I followed breathless. Coming back to reality all to soon, i looked around for a clock. It was almost 11o'clock.

I turned to Damion and said "you can go to your dorm. Ill let you know if anything happens."

He turned to me and said "now what kind of friend would i be if i left you like this?" i guess that was true. I wouldn't leave him either. I didn't even want him to leave, although it was selfish of me.
