I walked out of the room not knowing what to think of feel. I felt lost for a second; where do I go? Jake's of course. I must be in shock or something. I went down the hallway, earning a few stares from students as I passed. The last time people had seen me, I walked through a wall and was escorted out.
I turned the last corner and tried to open the door but it was locked.
I pounded on the door, calling out "Jake!". No answer. I couldn't hear anything so I decided to enter. I went through the door easily and the room was dark. Where was the light switch? The lights flickered on without me needing to touch a light switch. That was new.
There was no one here and had been that way since I left. I turned the lights off and walked back out the door.
I stood in the hallways, looking left and right, wondering where Jake was. People just watched me, pausing whatever they were doing to stare.
My frustration boiled over and I screamed "what?! Don't you have anything better to do?". They looked down, ashamed. I huffed and stormed down the hall. I heard running feet behind me and a palm on my shoulder. Without thinking, I threw the person over me and pinned him down in one swift motion.
I heard a groan underneath me and a small "get off Katrina" I knew that voice; it was Damion. I got up automatically and helped him up.
"Sorry. I'm just a bit jumpy" I mumbled.
"No kidding" he replied, rubbing the back of his neck.
"So what's up?" I asked, changing the subject.
"It's Jake" Damion stared but I cut him off.
"Where is he? Why didn't he come and visit me?"
"That's the thing. See, after you left Jake was attacked again. He almost didn't make it. He's in the hospital in critical condition right now" he told me. Attacked?! I needed to see him now. I tried to block the part of me that wanted to know who did it and tear them to pieces.
"I need to see him" I said.
"I'm visiting him now. Come with me" Damion offered. I nodded eagerly and chased after him.
"So....your in the army then?" Damion asked hesitantly.
"Yeah" I answered.
"Did Jake know you could...?" He didn't finish the question.
"He found out the day I got out of the coma" I said.
"What can you do anyways?" He asked.
"I don't really know how to answer that. An assortment of things" I told him. We turned into the hospital wing and Damion didn't ask any more questions.
We rounded into Jakes room and I had to steady myself at the sight if him. He had tubes and machines hooked up to his battered body. It was raw, bruised, and he was paler than the hospital sheets he laid on. The steady but weak beep of his heart echoed through the room.
I went slowly to his side and grabbed a hold of his hand. I felt the drawing sensation of my powers to him. I pressed my lips to his hand and waited for my powers to help him. To heal him. His heartbeat picked up significantly. His bruised face's swelling went down and his colour returned. His bleeding stopped and the gaping hole in his chest disappeared.
Jake's eyes slowly fluttered open.
"Oh thank God" I murmured, taking a deep breath and looked down, pressing my forehead to his hand
"Cat?" Jake's voice was sleep worn.
"I'm right here" I replied, looking up "Damion's here too. I'm sorry I didn't come sooner, I didn't know" well and I was locked up.
