chapter 49

in thirty minutes, delia's new song was going to be released. in half an hour, the world was going to hear a song about quinn. only a select few knew it was about the canucks captain, but it still made her anxious. she felt like she could throw up at any given moment.

"you okay over there?" emery asked her best friend. delia's face had started to heat up. she was resembling a tomato.

delia was feeling like she was experiencing a hot flash. she was sweating underneath the hoodie she had on. her skin was burning up.

the girl answered, "no, i feel like i'm going to throw up! and i need to get this stupid hoodie off of me!"

before emery or anyone else in the room could respond, delia had already gotten up off the couch to run to her room. emery, jamie, trevor, and alex were in complete shock. the only thing snapping them back to reality was the sound of delia's door closing.

jamie and emery looked at one another. they were silently debating which one should check on delia. or really which one delia would more likely want to see.

while those two were still deciding, delia had stripped from her former clothes. her hoodie and sweatpants were scattered on the floor. she quickly threw on a pair of shorts and a t-shirt. delia was thankful for the instant relief of cold air hitting her legs.

she just needed a second to breathe. without hesitation, delia flopped backwards on her bed and just laid there. her hands covered her face as she let out a groan of frustration.

delia was well aware all of this was in her head. she was just scared about this song being released. it's not like quinn would know it was about him. for all she knew, people could assume it was about jack. that thought made her visibly cringe.

"can i come in?" a knock on the door brought delia out of her thoughts.

delia replied, "i suppose."

her hands were still covering her face as her cousin opened the door. jamie examined the room before interacting with delia. he noticed her breathing was normal which he was grateful for.

jamie walked over to the edge of his cousin's bed. he thought for a second before asking, "do you care if i take a seat?"

delia shook her head. shortly after, she felt the bed dip. jamie had sat down near her but left some space between them.

she dropped her hands from her face, letting jamie see that her face was not nearly as red. he took that as a good sign and opportunity to start the conversation. he joked, "hey, your cheeks look a lot better!"

"yeah i'm not suffocating in those clothes anymore. i can actually breathe," delia rolled her eyes at his an attempt of a joke.

jamie questioned, "you wanna tell me why you couldn't breathe or did you want me to guess?"

"well since you're being an asshole you can guess," delia scoffed.

jamie looked up at the ceiling and muttered, "i should have sent emery in." delia did not hear this fortunately for jamie. she would have hit him.

"hmm, i'm going to say it has something to do with a boy who's name start with q and ends with uinn," jamie decided to be a smartass.

delia said with sarcasm, "really, what gave it away?"

the older cousin gave delia a look that implied he was not entertaining this. he was not going to beat around the bush. jamie wanted a straight answer so they could deal with this. time was running out as well. her music video was about to air.

"fine," delia huffed. she sat up and faced jamie as she continued, "i am just worried about the repercussions of releasing this song. what if people realize it's about quinn and he freaks out? or jack realizes its about his older brother?"

jamie went to respond but delia put a finger in his face. he caught on that she was not finished talking. delia added, "and i know it's a great song that needs to be released. it felt great to get those feelings out. i just don't want to start any more drama."

"let's be honest, the chances of people figuring out that it's about quinn are slim. you are a songwriter who works with other people. you can easily say the song isn't about a specific person. and if for some reason they figure out it's about quinn, you have all of us to support you. but is it really a bad thing if quinn realizes its about him?" jamie answers.

delia thought for a moment. she does work with other people and she knew emery would take the fall for this song in an instant. that's how much she cared about delia.

"i guess you're right."

"i'm sorry, what did you say? did you just say that jamie drysdale is right? can i get that in writing?" he teased.

delia rolled her eyes and laughed, "i hate you!"

she never liked to admit when jamie was right. but in the moment, she was more than appreciative. this song was coming out whether or not everyone knew the real meaning behind it. delia was not going to let her inner thoughts destroy what should be an exciting time in her life.

"love you too! anyways, can we please go back into the living room now? we quite literally have five minutes until the music video drops," her cousin stated.

"oh shit! i forgot i have to go live!"

delia bolted out of her room and went straight to her phone that was left on the couch. she ignored the weird looks from her friends as she quickly opened instagram. the poor girl was in a frenzy trying to start the live. by the time jamie joined everyone, she was all good to go.

once she noticed that people started flooding the comments, she said, "hey guys! i am just here to remind all of you to join the queue on youtube to watch my new music video! it drops it one minute!"

it was a funny thing to see a bunch of people join and then leave. in most cases, she would be offended. but she knew they were all going to youtube. delia could see it too since they had the music video livestream on the tv.

trevor then yelled, "delia, get off live! it's about to start!"

delia quickly ended her live and directed her attention to the countdown. she held onto emery's hand as the numbers stopped. and just like that, her music video was playing on the tv. run for hills had been released into the world.
