it felt like an excruciating several days of waiting to see quinn but she was finally in the same city as him. she hadn't seen him yet since he had practice when she landed. however, she was able to get a room in the same hotel as the team so she knew she could see him right as they got back. of course, this had to be done in secret. quinn wasn't sure if he wanted his team knowing about the situation yet. he didn't think they would go off and tell jack but the fear was still there.
after checking into her room, delia flopped onto her bed and tried figuring out what the two of them could possibly be doing. quinn still had not told her their date plan. the only thing she knew was that it had to be discreet and pretty private. due to this decision, delia would also not be attending quinn's game. she would be watching the game from the luxury of her hotel room.
as she was doom scrolling on her phone, she got a notification from quinn. he was letting her know that practice had just ended and he would be making his way to the hotel shortly. excitement and nervousness filled her entire body as she kept checking her phone for any updates. suddenly, her phone started to ring. quinn was calling her.
"everything okay?" delia asked since she had not been expecting him to call her, given he would be with his teammates.
delia could practically see quinn's confusion when he answered, "yeah, why wouldn't it be?"
"i just didn't expect you to call, that's all. but what's up?"
quinn quickly responded, "i'm back at the hotel, but i need to shower and then i'll be over."
delia tried asking quinn what they were doing and how she should dress. however, he would not budge on revealing his plans, but he did say to dress comfortable. quinn abruptly ended the call with a 'see you soon' leaving delia dumbfounded.
the girl was not sure how casual comfortable was supposed to be. currently, she was lounging around in a matching hoodie and sweatpants. delia thought she looked cute enough for whatever it was they were doing.
twenty minutes had passed since quinn had ended their call when a knock on the door came. knowing it was quinn and the dangers of him being out their too long, delia rushed to get the door. when she did open the door, she was greeted by a grinning quinn with flowers in one hand and a bag in the other. how he managed to get those past his teammates delia did not know.
"what did you bring?" delia began to laugh as quinn peppered a few kisses on her face, getting his wet hair on her face as well.
quinn handed delia her flowers as he answered, "well, i figured we don't really know each other, so I brought some games. and if you got really bored, we could put on a movie."
"you have this all figured out, don't you?"
quinn plopped on the bed, "nope, i really have no idea what i'm doing."
delia laid the flowers on the counter and joined quinn. the two sat in comfortable silence just observing each other. quinn couldn't comprehend that she was actually next to him and they were truly alone. he really felt like he was stuck in a dream.
"so, you said you brought games. let's see what you got," delia broke their trance.
the pair looked at the options as quinn dispersed them on the bed. delia was about to reach over to grab a random card game she had never seen before when quinn stopped her.
he explained, "instead of us picking, i thought it would be interesting to let fate decide." quinn grabbed a ziplock bag that was filled with paper slips and handed it over to delia. the girl reached her hand and was trying not to look. after a couple of seconds of mixing them, she finally decided on one.
"it looks like we have 21 questions," delia said while showing quinn.
knowing this would take a good chunk of their time, he made himself comfy and cleared room for his legs. he grinned at delia and replied, "ladies first."
delia rolled her eyes jokingly. she leaned back on her arms and stared at quinn, trying to figure out a good question to start the game with.
"okay, what is your favorite thing to do outside of hockey?" delia asked.
quinn answered as if that was easiest question he's ever been given, "well, if i'm not on the ice, then i'm probably reading."
that was not the answer she was expecting at all. part of her believed he was going to say something basic like golfing. however, it looked like quinn was full of surprises.
"what kind of books?"
"mostly historical fiction or biographies," quinn smiled. to say delia was impressed would be an understatement. quinn then continued, "and that's two questions from you, so now i get two in a row."
delia chuckled at quinn's response as she waited for him to ask her a question. she can tell that his brain is racking through several questions.
"maybe this is too deep for the first question, but where or when do you feel the most confident?"
without any sort of hesitation, delia replied, "on stage performing."
"and why is that?"
"because it's a time when i feel comfortable and i'm doing what i know best. all of the people in the crowd and whatever is going on in my personal life disappears. i feel free," delia explains thoughtfully.
after that question, the vibe shifted. the two began asking each other deep and vulnerable questions. it wasn't like they were sharing their deepest or darkest secrets. instead, it was pieces of them that others didn't always get to see or know.
delia talked about how much jamie meant to her and their dynamic growing up. she told quinn she always wished for an older brother and jamie became that to her. but she also revealed to quinn the struggles of the music industry and how she always felt out of place. some days, she felt like she needed to change herself to fit this mold that her record label wanted her to be.
while delia was confiding in quinn on some of her internal battles, quinn sat there attentively. he was soaking up every word that came out of her mouth. he wished they could do this all day, so he could learn everything about the girl sitting next to him. but surely enough, there was one question left and it was quinn's to ask delia.
quinn suddenly became noticeably nervous, which confused delia. the two had began opening up to each other and now quinn's demeanor did a 180. delia was about to speak up and ask what was going on when quinn finally got the courage.
"will you be my girlfriend?"
delia became still. the only thing she could do was blink at quinn. her brain was trying to process if she had just heard quinn properly.
the girl shook her head, still in denial, "i'm sorry, could you say that again?"
this time, quinn looked straight at delia and repeated, "will you be my girlfriend?"
instead of answering quinn, she inched closer to him and placed a deep kiss on his lips. she barely pulled away, allowing their heads to rest to against one another while quinn sucked in a huge breath. after a few seconds, so they could both gather their thoughts, she said, "so, did that answer your question?"
quinn's breath steadied and chuckled, "yeah, yeah it did."
delia immediately curled up into quinn's side. the two completely dismissed the other games quinn had organized. instead, they spent the rest of the night watching random movies and enjoying each other's company. and when quinn had to ultimately return to his room, he had smile plastered on his face for he could finally say delia drysdale was his. he just couldn't tell his teammates or his brother, not yet.
