"But, I love you. Don't you love me?" He looks up from his nervous pacing, and stares at me. "I-I do." Tears stream down my face, and I walk towards Thomas. "Then why are you doing this?" The tears drip down his face, slowly falling into the dirt and leaves below. "I'm so sorry, Thomas." I try to hug him, but he pushes me away. "What's the problem then? Did I do something wrong?" His head drops again, and he wipes the tears from his face. "No, it's not you."

"Then who's the other guy?.... Is it Newt?"

His gaze returns mine, and I stare at the ground, not wanting to answer his question. "So it is Newt..... You two will be very happy together." He storms off, leaving nothing left but ruffled leaves in his path. I can't believe I did that, I feel horrible. The tears continue to pour down my face, and I don't bother to wipe them. I think this is the best time to tell Newt, while my hopes aren't up. I start walking out of the darkness of the forest, kicking up the frail leaves as I trudge through them. I'm in no hurry to come out of the Deadheads, but I need to sooner or later....

I find Newt by the homestead, sitting on the ground resting his back on a tree trunk while munching on an apple. I find myself smiling while I stare at him, watching his golden hair flow in the wind. Paige is nowhere in sight, so this is a good time to tell him. "Hey Newt," I smile as I sit beside him under the tree. "Hey, love." Did he call me love?

My face brightens at his comment, and I find my confidence growing. "So, Newt. I-I really need to tell you something."

"Congrats, Newt!" Gally smirks as he runs by. "Thanks," he smiles and returns his attention to me. "Congrats on what?" I ask, not really wanting to know the answer. "Oh, Paige and I are dating.... So, what did you need to tell me?"

I feel my heart drop to my stomach, and I can tell my face turns red. "Oh, that's what I wanted to tell you. Congrats to you and Paige." I stand from the tree trunk, and run towards my hut. I don't care if the Gladers stare at me, I just need to be alone. "Y/n? What's wrong?" Chuck lays on his hammock, watching me run towards the hut. He follows behind me, and shuts the door behind him. I fall onto my bed, and begin sobbing silently into my palms. "Y/n? Talk to me." Chuck sits on the floor, and rests his hand on my leg. "Paige and Newt are dating, Chuck," my words are barely audible through my sobs, and I find myself crying harder.
