The days passed in agonizing silence.
Den, Guini, and Emma were trapped, confined within the lavish but suffocating walls of a new estate. A prison disguised as a sanctuary.
Surveillance was heavy. Alessandro had stationed guards at every exit, and cameras lined the halls. Servants moved around the estate, their gazes carefully averted as if they were under strict orders not to interact with the three captives.
Den had tried to reason with her grandfather several times, but each conversation ended the same way, with Alessandro standing firm in his decision and Don avoiding her pleading gaze. Guini, ever the strategist, had spent their days analyzing their surroundings, mentally mapping out the security weaknesses, while Den barely managed to hold herself together.
Emma, too young to understand the weight of their captivity, clung to Den at night, her little hands gripping onto her mother's clothing as though she feared she'd wake up alone again. And Den, with a heart heavy with regret and rage, could do nothing but hold her daughter close.
Each day stretched unbearably long, hours bleeding into each other. But on the seventh night, when the guards changed shifts and the estate fell into momentary stillness, Den and Guini made their move.
They then plan their Escape.
A storm raged outside, wind howling against the walls of the estate. The perfect cover.
"Tonight," Den whispered, gripping Guini's hand tightly. "We do it tonight."
Guini gave a firm nod. "Are you sure?"
Den took a shaky breath. "I have to be."
Guini had spent the past week noting guard rotations, camera placements, and the best way to evade detection. Their plan wasn't foolproof, but hesitation meant more days—maybe even weeks of captivity. They couldn't afford that.
Den crouched beside Emma's small form, gently shaking her awake. "Sweetie, wake up," she whispered.
Emma stirred, her eyes fluttering open. "Mommy?"
Den pressed a soft kiss to her forehead. "We're going to see Daddy, okay? But we have to be very quiet. Can you do that for me?"
Emma nodded sleepily, but excitement flickered in her eyes at the mention of Mikey.
Guini peered out into the hall. "Now."
They moved swiftly through the corridors, keeping to the shadows. The storm outside masked their footsteps, making it easier to navigate the marble floors without a sound. Guini had disabled two of the security cameras earlier that evening, creating a brief window where they wouldn't be detected.
They reached the back exit. Relief began to wash over Den until a familiar voice shattered it completely.
