Chapter 11: Bonnie and Clyde

As the convoy of cars rolled to a stop, the sheer magnificence of the Lombardi estate stunned everyone. Towering marble columns framed the grand entrance, and an elegant fountain with intricate carvings stood proudly in the courtyard. The sprawling villa exuded history and power, with ivy climbing its aged stone walls.
Inside, the air was thick with an aura of prestige. Massive chandeliers cast warm light over polished floors, and the grandeur of the estate left even the most composed members of Bonten in silent awe. Rich tapestries hung alongside family portraits lining the walls, whispering tales of the Lombardi legacy.
"This place... it's like a museum," Koko murmured, his sharp eyes drinking in every detail.
"Not just a museum," Ran added under his breath. "It's a fortress."
The group walked into the grand hall, the echo of their footsteps bouncing off the high ceilings. At the top of the grand staircase, framed by the glow of the chandeliers and standing just below a massive portrait of the Lombardi lineage, stood Alessandro Lombardi himself, the Capo of the Lombardi familia.
His presence demanded attention. The elderly man, dressed impeccably in a tailored suit, held a subtle yet commanding air. His dark eyes, sharp and calculating, softened only slightly as he saw his grandchildren approach.
Manjiro felt Den tighten her grip on his hand momentarily. She released him as the old man started descending the stairs. Donatello was immediately at his side, stepping forward to assist his grandfather with a firm but reverent grip. Alessandro lightly patted Donatello's hand but accepted the help.
Once he reached the bottom, Alessandro didn't hesitate as Den broke into a run, wrapping her arms around him. "I missed you, Grandpa!"
Alessandro laughed, a sound that felt strangely warm yet carried a weight of wisdom and experience. "Do you?" he teased lightly, patting her on the back. "You rarely call me or your dear brother."
Den stepped back with a small pout, but her grandfather's affectionate smile softened the jest. Behind her, Guini approached with a smile of her own. "Hi, Grandpa, it's been a while."
Alessandro's gaze shifted to her, a subtle warmth settling into his expression. "And here's my other rebel grandchild," he said, extending an arm to her. Guini hugged him, her affection genuine.
From an outsider's perspective, it looked like a heartfelt reunion between a loving grandfather and his grandchildren. But to the trained eyes of Bonten, there was more to Alessandro's demeanour than met the eye. Beneath his gentle smiles and jokes lay a man who had likely seen and done more than most of them could comprehend.
"They're giving me chills," Koko muttered to himself, rubbing his arms.
