The hallway was silent except for the approaching footsteps. My mind was spinning, but I forced myself to focus. Then—the footsteps stopped.
A door hissed open.
A lone figure stepped through. It wasn't a guard. And definitely not a robot.
It was Kil.
He walked in slowly, hands clasped behind his back. No armor. No weapons drawn. Just his stupid confidence.
"Call off your attack, let's talk" Kil said calmly. He looked exactly like dad, same hair color, same eye color. Same height. Everything. I didn't believe I was seeing this, the alternate version my father. It hurt because I missed him..a lot. I got angry as I realized how he has caused people to live in underground bases and abused their rights as citizens. My instincts told me to blast him right where he was standing. Vanessa stepped forward "Maddie. Wait"
Kil smirked "Smart friend, you should listen to her" I glared at him. He walked slowly, looking at me like I'm an experiment. "So tell me, how does it feel?"
"How does what feel?" I said flatly.
Kil tilted his head "Looking into the eyes of someone who looks like your father but isn't?" A sharp pang hit my chest. So he wants to play dirty.
"And Maddix..knowing that she is you, but different?"
"I'm not her" I say sharply. Kil chuckled and I clenched my fists harder, "Yet" he smirked. The words sent a chill down my spine. "If you've something to say, what the hell are you waiting for?" Vanessa shot. Kil sighed as if bored, "You came for Vayra's parents right? Well..take 'em" he said, serious. My stomach dropped, that was too easy, this was a trap.
"What's the catch?" Lily couldn't wonder but ask, suspiciously. "Simple. Madison stays" Kil smiled. My breath caught in my throat the others were surprised too. "Maddie, where are you guys?" The voice sounded from the comm I had wore in my ear. "Big bucket of water just poured. Wait..." I replied meaning "Mission failed. They should wait" we had to make it coded so they don't understand.
"Mission failed huh? Impressive. You think my fortress is easy to penetrate?" Kil smiled again. My blood froze. He understood the code!
"But don't worry. It's simple. No tricks, no traps, you stay behind. Your friends and Vayra's parents are free"
The air was suffocating.
I turned to my friends. Vayra shook her head. "It's okay" I whispered. "No" Vayra said, her arms transforming into their usual golden then she clenched her fists. "Vayra what are you doing?" I said at her but she shook her head. "We're doing this together, no regrets no sacrificing anything" she turned to her locked up parents who looked sad. Kil sighed "Oh well, I guess meeting up with yourself will change your mind" "Where is she?" I asked firmly but uneasy, "Oh you don't find Maddix, she finds you" he shrugged just as the door hissed open again and I would've been damned... It was Maddix. It was me. My eyes went wide as she walked into the room, her silver and blue suit and boots completing her confident look.
We looked the same, but the difference was..her hair was dyed black. How I knew? Had no idea. I just felt it. Same height, but she looked sharper, eyes cold and a confidence. I tensed, it was like looking into a twisted mirror. Maddix turned to Kil
"Hello, father, I heard that you've called me. And..I gotta say, Im surprised" she looked at me, smirking. I thought she would've been kind despite having a cruel father. But I didn't know that she would be this twisted. Well, it is an alternate universe.
"...What happened to you?"
Maddix's smile faltered. Then she grinned.
"Oh sweetheart. The real question is--whats gonna happen to you?" I froze.
