Part 17: A Night of Confessions

The air in the mansion was thick with tension. Subaru had spent the entire day dodging conversations, his mind struggling to make sense of everything. But as night fell, he knew he couldn’t run any longer.

Sitting in the grand hall, he took a deep breath. He had sent a message to Beatrice, Petra, Meili, Ryuzu, and Pandora, asking them all to meet him here.

One by one, they arrived. Beatrice appeared first, crossing her arms with an expectant look. Petra followed, her expression uncertain but hopeful. Meili sauntered in, acting casual but stealing glances at Subaru. Ryuzu entered with a calm, unreadable face, and finally, Pandora stepped in, a mysterious smile on her lips.

Subaru stood up, rubbing the back of his head. “I… I need to talk to you all.”

Beatrice raised an eyebrow. “About what, I suppose?”

Subaru gulped. “About everything that’s been happening. About… us.”

Silence fell over the room.

Petra looked nervous. “You mean… you’re going to choose?”

Subaru clenched his fists. “I don’t want to treat any of you unfairly. You all mean a lot to me, and that’s why I have to be honest.”

Ryuzu smiled gently. “Go on, Subaru. We’re listening.”

Subaru took a deep breath. “Beatrice, you’ve been by my side through so much. When I was at my lowest, you never left me. I trust you more than anyone.”

Beatrice’s cheeks flushed slightly, but she huffed. “Obviously, I suppose.”

He turned to Petra. “Petra, you’re one of the strongest people I know. You’ve always looked up to me, but I’ve come to admire you just as much. You deserve someone who sees your kindness and determination.”

Petra bit her lip, her hands clenching her dress.

Subaru faced Meili next. “Meili, I know you put up a tough front, but deep down, you’re just looking for a place where you belong. And… I want you to know that you’ll always have a place with me.”

Meili’s eyes widened before she looked away, hiding her expression.

Turning to Ryuzu, Subaru sighed. “Ryuzu, you’ve always been there, watching over me with that quiet wisdom of yours. I respect you so much, and no matter what happens, I never want to lose that bond.”

Ryuzu nodded in understanding.

Finally, he looked at Pandora. Her golden eyes locked onto his, unwavering. “Pandora… I don’t know what to say. You’re the most confusing person I’ve ever met. You scare me, and yet… I can’t ignore the way you look at me. I don’t know what you truly feel, but I know you’re different with me.”

Pandora simply smiled. “How intriguing.”

Subaru exhaled sharply. “The truth is… I don’t have a perfect answer. I don’t know what the future holds, but I promise I won’t take any of you for granted. I just need more time to understand what my heart is telling me.”

The girls exchanged glances, each reacting in their own way.

Beatrice crossed her arms. “Hmph. Fine, I suppose. But don’t keep us waiting forever, you dummy.”

Petra gave a small nod. “As long as you don’t forget how I feel, I can wait.”

Meili smirked. “Tch. Figures. But you better not break my heart, got it?”

Ryuzu simply smiled, content with his words.

Pandora, however, stepped closer, her voice as smooth as silk. “Take all the time you need, Subaru. But remember, no matter what happens, you are mine.”

Subaru gulped as she lightly traced a finger along his cheek before stepping back.

The tension in the room slowly faded, replaced by something more complicated, yet peaceful.

For now, things weren’t fully resolved.

But Subaru had taken the first step.

And that was enough.
