The soft glow of early morning light filtered through the blinds, casting a warm hue across the room. The bed was still warm from the night before, the quiet hum of the world outside providing a gentle backdrop to the calm of the moment. Aria stirred in her sleep, the sheets tangled around her body.
Alex, however, was already awake, lying on his side, his gaze soft and affectionate as he watched Aria sleep. He couldn't resist. Reaching out, he gently brushed a strand of hair from her face, then pressed his lips to her neck in a slow, teasing kiss.
Aria let out a soft, content sigh, but didn't stir just yet. Alex smirked and kissed her neck again, this time a little longer, a little more intentional. His lips trailed up to her ear as he whispered, his voice low and playful.
"Good morning, beautiful."
Aria blinked, slowly waking up, her eyes still heavy with sleep as she turned her head to look at him. "Mmm... good morning," she murmured, a sleepy smile curving her lips. She shifted slightly, only to find Alex's lips lingering near her skin.
Before she could respond, he kissed her again, a soft, lingering kiss against her cheek, and then her jawline. His hand slid gently down her back, his fingers grazing the bare skin of her waist.
Aria closed her eyes for a brief moment, but then she pulled back slightly, pressing her lips firmly to his, stopping him before things could escalate further.
"No," she said softly but firmly, a playful glint in her eyes. "Not today."
Alex raised an eyebrow, the corners of his mouth curling into a grin. "What do you mean, not today?" He leaned in again, trying to tempt her with another kiss, but Aria stopped him with a gentle hand on his chest.
"We've got final interviews today," she reminded him, her voice steady despite the slight blush creeping up her cheeks from the proximity. "For chief resident. You can't just distract me with kisses when we have important stuff to do."
Alex groaned, rolling onto his back, exasperated but still smiling. "You're seriously going to leave me like this?" he teased, his voice tinged with both frustration and amusement. "I need to relax before those interviews, and you're saying no?"
Aria chuckled softly, the sound light and melodic. "I'm sure you'll do just fine. You can relax in the shower. We'll save the celebrating for later. After I'm officially chief resident."
Alex's eyes brightened at the mention of celebration, a playful gleam returning to them. "So you're saying you'll celebrate with me later?"
Aria grinned as she swung her legs out of the bed, standing up and stretching, the sunlight catching her as she moved. "We will celebrate when I'm chief resident. You can get started on your victory dance after the interviews."
She turned back toward him, her smile mischievous. "Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to get breakfast. Maybe you can start relaxing while I make us something to eat."
Alex groaned dramatically from the bed, flopping back onto the pillow. "I see how it is. Fine. But just remember... we'll be celebrating me later."
Aria chuckled as she reached for her robe. "Sure, Karev. We'll celebrate you supporting your girl," she called over her shoulder, heading toward the kitchen.
As she walked out of the room, Alex's voice carried after her, teasing but affectionate.
"Don't forget—I win this time!"
Aria laughed, shaking her head as she disappeared down the hallway, the lighthearted banter filling the quiet house. Today was going to be a big day, but they'd find time for themselves later. After all, there would always be time for celebration.
